Naturally.
No. He is headed to West Virginia for 2 reasons. First, they have had 25 Rhodes Scholars and Penn State only 2 (which is pathetic). Yes, the spelling is different, but it is pronounced the same. Second, his nickname will become "Country" and "Country Rhoades" will take them home to an NCAA Championship. Trust me. I know stuff.

Doing a comparison of the number of Rhodes Scholars by school is a bit specious. The awards are made by (semi) geographic region, not nationally. The composition of those regions changes from time, but PA is almost always in one of the more difficult/competitive. That said, West Virginia hasn't had a Rhodes Scholar in nearly 30 years, and is currently in a group with Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

:) :) :)

Very insightful.

I wonder what ever happened to that guy.

Wonder if Joe had any regrets about that given he likely does not 'go out' tarnished and vilified if he takes the Pats (or Hurricanes) job when offered. Who knows? Sandusky was on staff when this offer was made - maybe he goes with Joe too. My guess is Joe didn't have any regrets on the whole...

No matter how you compare them, 2 is pathetic. Our last one was 23 years ago.
If PA is in one of the more competitive regions, Pitt has managed to earn 8. Lehigh has 6. Villanova and Gettysburg have 3 each. All have a far smaller pool of "scholars" that might apply.
Swarthmore has 28. OK. We are no Swarthmore. But we should aspire to be Pitt, which, as noted, has 8. Five of those have been earned since our last one in 2001.

It's not a given, though more likely than not, that all of the winners from the schools you cited were from the PA region.

You'll also find that graduates from STEM fields are under-represented.

Finally, all you need to know about the Rhodes is that a minus-mind like Gregg McElroy was a finalist

That Lakers job is a really tough job at the moment. I expect that they are going to have to hire a first-time head coach.

But that proves my point. We have thousands of those. Our awardee numbers should be off the charts! ;)

Point taken. Surprised that Neeli doesn't have her minions scouring the depths for candidates.

Truth is the pursuit is pretty time consuming and it's not for everyone.

The Lakers had been thinking of hiring LeBron’s buddy JJ Reddick, that would have been a disastrous hire. I like Reddick but he’s got zero coaching experience.
