Have a friend who works with the program in a support function hearing rumblings that he's back. Take it fwiw.
If true, well, on the one hand, he doesn't have a future in the NFL, so it makes sense from that standpoint.
On the other hand, it might be time to turn over the offense to the younger guys....
I got a similar take. This seems to be a weak draft class for quarterbacks, so I was halfway expecting him to declare. It's likely that he got some advice regarding his chances in the NFL and here we are today. I'm not brimming over with enthusiasm about this news.If true, well, on the one hand, he doesn't have a future in the NFL, so it makes sense from that standpoint.

That would be great if it actually happened that way. But similar to a bowl game and the extra practices, Franklin has his guys and that's who will play. It's played out that way all season, player performance be damned. On point 1- agreed.
On point 2- agreed with a (big) caveat. I think its good for the program if Franklin is willing to break with his tendency and Allar actually gets some game action as the course of a game or the season allows.
I like the idea of hedging, depending on how the first 6 games play out. If we are sitting at 3-3 after 6 games with losses to Auburn, OSU and Michigan then its time to let Allar see the field quite a bit, maybe turn over the reigns, against the weaker back half of the schedule. If we are 5-1 or 4-2 with the CFP or Division still within reach you ride with Clifford. If we are 3-3 and Clifford take 95% of the snaps over the final 6 games then 2021 is a waste and we've set ourselves back in 2022.
I'm in favor of perhaps taking some lumps next year in exchange for making serious bang two seasons down the road.I don't think a healtht SC is bad for PSU. It gives the young guys a chance to acclimate to CFB. No matter how good you are it is a jump and you are never sure how fast guys can make it.

If SC comes back, he will probably play all season regardless of the teams record. Unless he is forced to the sideline due to injury.
I believe it was the dark years would probably be as close as possible that I can remember. 2001/02/03/04.So, when was the last time PSU had a QB who started 4 straight seasons?

Maybe Tony Sacca?
Not commenting if you friend is right or wrong, but if he really works with the program, he is being very reckless. I'm very close to the program for several reasons and I know James is very strict about information leaking from Lasch. Your friend will be out quickly if he doesn't learn to keep his mouth shut.Have a friend who works with the program in a support function hearing rumblings that he's back. Take it fwiw.
Was he a full time starter all four years? Didn't he battle it out with Senneca for a year or two? Wasn't Senneca listed ahead of him for a bit? SC didn't start every game but he was the listed starter I believe.Mills
Great young man and a true warrior. But, it's time to move on Sean!Have a friend who works with the program in a support function hearing rumblings that he's back. Take it fwiw.
I guess it depends also on why the backup is in the game. If it's due to injury or inefficient play of the starter then they should play the normal playbook. If the backup is in for garbage time in a winning blowout then they probably shouldn't be passing too much. That's my concern as it is Franklin's MO. Yurcich doesn't have a great history either and you have to go back a bit to find anything encouraging. Backups at UT attempted 22 passes in 2022. OSUs took 50 behind Fields in 2019. OK State's took 8, 14, 17, 61, 123, 193 in 18,17,16,15,14,13 respectively. The backup came in in 2013 after a season ending injury to the starter. 2014 he lost his job to Mason Rudolph after 9 games. 2015 were junk snaps other than one game Rudolph didnt start due to injury.

This might seem to be cold, and I do appreciate the effort and courage SC has shown, but it's time to Next Man Up.
Good grief. Someone tell him the deadline to sign up for Medicare is Dec. 7.Have a friend who works with the program in a support function hearing rumblings that he's back. Take it fwiw.
Were it that simple. If SC comes back he is starting, is 100% my take. I just don’t see it happening otherwise.I’m happy if he comes back. We can always not play him. There’s no option to play him if he’s not rostered. It takes up only one of 85 slots and that last guy out that he displaces probably isn’t going make as big a difference.

The thing is though, I think the team would be better served with Veilleux at the helm. With Clifford starting and Alllar/Pribulea coming in, there's probably a good chance that CV portals out. As it is, I think CV is a better passer than SC anyway. If SC wants another year to show the NFL what he can do, he should probably transfer to another school.
Seneca was definitely the starter at the beginning of 2001. Not sure when Mills took over as starter. Mills came in to win the Northwestern game the week before OSU but pretty sure Seneca started the OSU game. Then Mills came in and we stromed back to win that game and I think Mills took over as starter after that. But that's going on memory from 20 years ago.
What about Adrian Martinez? I swear that he's been playing since Bob DevaneyGood grief. Someone tell him the deadline to sign up for Medicare is Dec. 7.
If SC has NFL dreams and thinks he is close, he absolutely should transfer. Getting the hell beat out of him again with this team isn't going to do anything for him. He has done a nice job for the most part here, but it's probably best for both parties to move on.The thing is though, I think the team would be better served with Veilleux at the helm. Don't do this to me.Have a friend who works with the program in a support function hearing rumblings that he's back. Take it fwiw.
I am not sure that it is a given that "taking lumps" for a year (by, presumably, throwing a freshman out there as the full-time Day 1 starter) would lead to "more serious bang" down the road.I'm in favor of perhaps taking some lumps next year in exchange for making serious bang two seasons down the road.

+1. My fear is that Franklin does the same thing and doesn't get any of the backups any valuable playing time. Also if Clifford does come back I don't see CV, Drew or Beau all sticking. On point 1- agreed.

Yeah......don't they.....Some people just don't know when it's time to leave a party.
He came in for an injured Senneca in the NW game and then I think Senneca came back and started the OSU game but Mills came back in with some heroics and won it and was the starter after.
