After the first 1/3 of the season, a look back on my preseason thoughts.
• Memphis would make my wool hyper-grow. Check. I fell for it, like a band geek for the head cheerleader. And I knew I would beforehand. I'm so gullible...
• The losses at LB would loom large. Check. Inexperience will kill you in the SEC. I was prepared for this
• The loss at LT would slow us somewhat. Check. Along with the unforeseen injuries, this has been multiplied. (Then again, how can any Tobias Harris, errr Smith injury be unforeseen)
• The passing game would be improved. Unchecked. I was expecting some sort of progression in all phases of the passing game. After week 4, I am underwhelmed. Not just by Relf's regression, but by the inability of our pass catchers to make plays. I suspect it is position coaching, as well as execution.
• Recruiting would improve, after last year's success. Unchecked. I can't look at this until down the road. But as of today, i was expecting a LOT more... I guess we will never have the ABILITY (<<<< Wink, Nudge) to recruit in this conference.
• Final Record for 2011: 5-7 to 7-5. Check. I think we are staring 6-6 right in the face, with a deviation of 1 game to either side.

Hiring a first time WR coach and a first time def. coordinator was a mistake. I realize we are MState, but the SEC is not the place to experiment with first time coaches. We need to stop hiring in house just because, and starting finding the best nationwide talent available for the job. If that person happens to be in house, fine, but at least make a genuine effort to keep it real.

our coaching losses last year hurt, but also the youth of out staff overall is crazy. They are all still learning how to actually coach and having worked together for only a few months makes it even tougher because as a young coach you think you know it all and have all the answers. This staff is good (i think) but they need some time under their belt together and gain some experience as a coaching staff. You dont see huge turnover in staffs in the top programs. We have had what 5 def. coordinators in as many years? That is not good. I think we really miss Hud, but Im willing to give Mirando a shot for a year or two.
