So this makes it interesting for the bowls that had PAC-10 tie-ins, such as the Holiday Bowl and others. Will they be denied choices of top-tier teams or will a new picking structure be implemented to ensure quality teams for them.
This seems like it may be the plan. There may be some hiccups but I'm sure they'll try to find good pairings....

This could very well spell the demise for some 60 or 250 bowl games. It’s about time the insignificant games played in bad locations and empty stadiums die off.

Hopefully that will happen, but we will surely miss the Summer's Eve, Auto Zone Latte Bowl live from Petaluma California

Very good question brought up in the article. Could the pendulum swing back the other way and these "super conferences" break apart back to their traditional and geographic footprints because of becoming too unwieldy and costly for the sports other than basketball and football?

It's time for the FTC to step in. Break it up like they are Standard Oil!

Already done to various degrees in the minor sports.

Surprised UNLV isn’t on the list. Or maybe they will be later along with another university to get to eight.

In almost all of the articles and tweets I've seen about the addition of the 4 Mountain West schools, there is mention of either surprise that UNLV is not also joining, or that they must be a target for the Pac-12.

What am I missing? That menu of PAC-12 schools leaves everything to be desired. When Oregon St and Washington St are your premier programs, you’re doomed.

Yeah, it’s not a great line up of schools. They’re taking part of the Mountain West and just renaming it the PAC- 6. At this point their best options to get to 8 are UNLV, New Mexico, Wyoming, or Air Force.

The real fight will be if they get the mandated 8 schools for a conference by the end of next year. If they push for the new PAC- 8 to be a P5 conference there needs to be serious pushback.

Not that I think it would happen, but a reconstituted Pac-Howevermany conference being designated "Power" would have no practical significance..

Only in the sense that their conference champ would then get an automatic playoff bid.

It would not. The five highest ranked conference champions get automatic berths, regardless of their designation, P, G, or anything else the media wants to call them. Even as things currently stand, it is possible, though probably unlikely, that Power 4 champion doesn't make the playoff.
