reason #69 why State baseball cant be what it was in the 1980's:

Nashville, Tenn. - The Major League Baseball Draft came to an end Wednesday afternoon with one more Commodores' name being called to bring the total to a Southeastern Conference record 12 players.

Joe Loftus was picked in the 46th round (1384 overall) to push the Dores past the previous SEC record of 11 held by Auburn (2010), Ole Miss (2009) and Georgia (2009). The draft started on Monday with Sonny Gray and Grayson Garvin going in the first round. Nine Vandy players heard their names called yesterday with Jason Esposito, Jack Armstrong, Aaron Westlake, Corey Williams, Taylor Hill, Mark Lamm, Curt Casali, Navery Moore and Will Clinard being selected. The 2011 total equals the combined total of 2009 and 2010 for Vanderbilt when six players where picked in each draft.

The Commodores host the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament at Hawkins Field for the first time in school history. First pitch against Oregon State is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night on ESPNU.

Only made it to 2 CWS. Missed the tournament in 80, 82, and 86 (not even close any of those years). Would have missed it in 87 but qualified for the SEC tournament on the last day of the season and won it. Major regional chokes in 84 and 89.

Makes sense.

No- but State basketball could make a Sweet 16 at leastonce a decade

It's just a helluva lot tougher to win in SEC Football and Baseball

The SEC as awholejust isn't nearly as good in basketball as it is in football and baseball. Contrary to popular belief, it's NOT because the SEC isn't trying or doesn't care. The SEC has shown that it cares a lot about pretty much all sports. So why doesn't the SEC do better in basketball? Because it's harderto win in basketball. There's a lot more competition nationwide than in football or baseball. Also, basketball is a mostly urban game, while most of the SEC (especially Mississippi) is rural.

" Because it's harderfor Miss State to win in basketball because of who their coach is"

We finished 5th in the SEC West in football with the best team we have had in 10 years- it's not easier to win in SEC football than basketball
We had a losing record in SEC baseball, but still made the Sweet 16- It's not easier to win in SEC baseball than it is in basketball.

We have had good basketball team after good basketball team flame out in March- lack of talent wasnt the reason.

The reason the SEC isn't as good in basketball as they are as football and baseball is because of Rick Stansbury. 17ing brilliant.
