Very dumb question from our game

On our second touchdown drive, we had a 1st and 10 when Nyck committed the holding penalty. After the penalty was assessed, we went to a 1st and 9.

It was a 10 yard penalty, so how did we end up actually gaining a yard?

The hold must have been beyond the line of scrimmage, so that it returned 10 yards back to that spot.

I've seen that happen a few times, but it's rare.

Yup. Harbor tacked their defender pretty much and they were just past the first down marker. So measured 10 from there.
