Ya think Strategic Communications has a press release teed up for this one?
You're either getting better or you're getting worse, but you're not staying the sameHow do you fall 126 places in one year? It must be largely based on perceptions of cost. Not much changes in one year. I don’t think buildings were swallowed up by the earth.
Maybe it wakes psu up to bring the damn tuition down. 60k plus for my kid. Ridiculous
Somebody with more ambition than I should compare rankings late 70s mid 80s prime Joe to today. It shouldn’t mean anything but it does. Maybe he was the top guy at the University after all? You're either getting better or you're getting worse, but you're not staying the same
Some guy used to say that a lot
at this point the young people I talk to I tell them stay local, incure small debt, let your employer pay for your masters
withess:
Del State
In-state tuition 8,358 USD, Out-of-state tuition 18,280 USD
Blue Hens
In-state tuition 15,410 USD, Out-of-state tuition 37,930 USD
There’s a big difference in those rankings and the U S News and World Report Rankings for 2024. Take it for what it’s worth. I know many of you will only believe whatever makes PSU look the worst.
Attaboy. One difference I think is this list does not separate by highest degree offered or size. So, a lot of smaller schools eating PSU’s lunch.
Attaboy.
Those are purely tuition numbers. It doesn’t include room and board, etc. When you add those costs in, U of D is approximately $36,000 for in state students and $60k + for out of state students. We just went through this process, as did a few friends of ours. U of D is very expensive for out of state students. I had a coworker whose daughter wanted to go there, but went to Tennessee instead because of the cost and Delaware’s inability to provide additional financial aid. We also had a family friend whose daughter really liked U of D and she went to PSU instead due to cost.at this point the young people I talk to I tell them stay local, incure small debt, let your employer pay for your masters

So, isn’t PSU a big, national university with research interests? Who do you propose they be compared to? It’s ranked 60 in that category and 28 in top public schools, right? What am I missing?Just reading the list. PSU does better when compared to big, national universities who offer PhD’s and are big on research. I went to PSU when it was ranked around 44 nationally. This is sad by any measure.

We could all pick and choose which rankings we find most relevant. However, most of this isn’t worth anyone getting their knickers in a bunch over. The OP seems to be on an antiPSU rant this evening. Somehow he has an issue with a multimillion dollar donation also. No, I am agreeing with you. The USNWR list is one with PSU against similar size schools that offer similar degree levels. The WSJ list is ‘all inclusive’.
The WSJ rankings are from an undergrad perspective. If a large university is prioritizing research at the expense of undergraduate education, there are probably better choices for someone to spend the first four years.Just reading the list. Bottom line is, kids have to pick the path that’s best for them individually both academically and financially. And that’s ok. That’s how it is supposed to work. It’s not a pissing contest.I have four kids. PSU isn’t in their top 5. Kids are smart when it comes to studying what they want without paying ridiculous fees.
Schreyer is tits, can they get in?I have four kids. PSU isn’t in their top 5. Kids are smart when it comes to studying what they want without paying ridiculous fees.
I showed 8k
Yes but no moneySchreyer is tits, can they get in?
All well and good but I’m a PSU grad and my wife asks what are the kids getting for 60k other than a great party scene? My kids aren’t stupid - they hear these discussions and figure out other options beside my alma mater.Bottom line is, kids have to pick the path that’s best for them individually both academically and financially. We paid 40 per -25k up front so no joke 2013-2019Yes but no money
That’s great. Good for them. Let them forge their own path. Good luck. All well and good but I’m a PSU grad and my wife asks what are the kids getting for 60k other than a great party scene? My kids aren’t stupid - they hear these discussions and figure out other options beside my alma mater.
True. My daughter is freshmen in schreyers. Not that much given.Yes but no money

It's now $5,000 per year, so it's a nice bag. Maybe not compared to out-of-state, but nice anyway. I had two go through (in-state; 2017 and 2022) and they got about $4k per year from Schreyer.True. My daughter is freshmen in schreyers. Not that much given.
