Really like watching Boston, Beal, Cook, and the rest these past years. They have a chance to repeat as NCAA champs which would be historic. Should this happen, why not come back and try to do something monumental? Think about it…….
  • 2020 were ranked #1 when covid stopped the SEC and NCAA tournament
  • 2021 missed put back in F4 to make Championship game
  • 2022 won it
  • 2023 lets say we win it
  • 2024…possible 3 peat
The reason this might be something to consider is the top two players in the WNBA make around 220k per year. That’s it!
Aja Wilson is one of those. So you know Boston may get close to that, but Beal and Cook would likely be well under that.
With the NIL,they could easily make 6 figures, stay together for possible history, be around fans that love them, and play in front of 12-15k fans instead of 1500 in the WNBA. The WNBA will still be there. It’s not remotely like there’s big money at stake….and I guarantee more people watch college wbb than watch the wnba. Heck, the notoriety they bring us is worth 200k each so someone could make it work…wink wink.

So I hope the NIL deals get made and they stay another year. It’s not like Boston is going to hurt her draft stock by coming back.

I don’t watch either so I’m not qualified to say. However, I believe there’s more exposure, notoriety, coverage or whatever for the college game. I couldn’t tell you a thing about the WNBA. Can’t name a single WNBA champion. But just from what I absorb as as peripheral information from following sports in general, I can name a handful of college players (outside Columbia), I know who the better teams are, champion etc.

I imagine there is more fame and fortune for WBB at the college level than the pro level.

The top players have agents that get them deals from national brands. Most of the deals can go with them to the pros. No way Aliyah or Zia come back. Aliyah has had an amazing career and has nothing left to prove at the collegiate level. Zia is having a wonderful season and is playing to the potential we all thought she would when she got here. Beal and LA could come back and benefit from another year but I think they both move on.

I can name one WNBA team....the Sparks. I can't name you what city they are in. I am probably in the majority on that. Bill Burr summed up the WNBA nicely.

I believe this is a repeat problem poster, who is on his third or fourth screen name, after being repeatedly banned. Pulled this same stunt with pretty much all the WBB threads.

It is all about endorsements and playing professionally vice under the scope of college. No classes, no big mother watching over you. Grown adults want to be grown adults. God bless these young women and what they have brought to Carolina in so many different ways. Why do you think we can't 3 Peat with the group waiting to play behind them? But, I get the yen to keep the team photo looking the same when winning is so common and expected.

Your brilliance is stunning. The clarity of your statement was so obvious and perfectly positioned in a thread about women’s basketball. If only you would have added a question mark It could’ve even been more ambiguous. But I do love me some crab legs so good for you.

Once could come back for grad school.

Before the 1950s, most football fans followed the college game.

I can name the Atlanta Dream and the Connecticut Mystics in the WNBA. Sparks played the Mystics for last season's title.

The reason this might be something to consider is the top two players in the WNBA make around 220k per year. That’s it!

$220k is a lot of money, particularly for a sport that only a small number of people watch.

Aja Wilson is one of those. So you know Boston may get close to that, but Beal and Cook would likely be well under that.

Six figure deals for WBB players are few and far between. It's not 'easy'...it's a tall task.

stay together for possible history, be around fans that love them, and play in front of 12-15k fans instead of 1500 in the WNBA.

Agreed that the typical crowd at a USC home game is well above the average WNBA crowd. Road crowds for college WBB games are a different story, however.

The WNBA will still be there. It’s not remotely like there’s big money at stake

There is pretty big money at stake...$220k is the going rate for an experienced doctor.

….and I guarantee more people watch college wbb than watch the wnba.

If you were to measure eyeballs on TV (which is what generates the dollars), not really. In terms of the entire country, hardly anyone cares about either the WNBA or WBB. It just isn't a very popular sport to the average sports fan.

Heck, the notoriety they bring us is worth 200k each

I think you are overestimating how much notoriety is generated here. We are one of about three schools where WBB carries much weight.

So I hope the NIL deals get made and they stay another year. It’s not like Boston is going to hurt her draft stock by coming back.

Sure, it would be nice for anyone to have a good NIL deal. Good luck finding someone with enough available funds who will find the same amount of value that you perceive.

I said more people watch college wbb than the wnba….that was that point. Espn does pay the sec revenue money and broadcasts numerous games. Way more than they broadcast wnba games. Boston could earn more than numerous football players. Not saying 220k is chump change, but a few years of that may not be worth the loss of notoriety later on.

Anyway, there are way more college wbb fans nationwide than wnba fans…….we all know that. The Bill Burr link is not only funny, it’s factual.

Thanks for the nice counterpoints and I get your points. I was just thinking of the pros and cons. From my view ( which is worth nothing), if I was them knowing what I know about life and finances, I would play another year and get a masters or something…JMO

WBB is big at USC, for certain. But I think you are significantly overstating its popularity nationwide. Ultimately, both WBB and the WNBA operate in the red because neither is exactly popular among large swaths of people.

From my perspective, any of the USC stars would be best served to cash in on a $200k+/year contract in the WNBA particularly if they can play at a high level for 8-10 years. The incremental money from a college NIL wouldn't likely be consequential. And if it was? They could theoretically make the same type of NIL money as a WNBA player...in addition the large WNBA salary.

My thought initially was that they could make more playing at USC another year. Boston and Cook NIL endorsements will follow them to the WNBA. LA and Beal will definitely help themselves and the team if they return. Cardoso, LA, Fagan & Watkins would be tough to defend. DS would not have to totally depend on the inside game with Fulwiley, Tessa Johnson, Cooper, Hall and Kitts shooting from outside.

It’s a thread about our WBB team not a vent for your political anger. Did you not read the no politics manifesto by management

It nots that you struck a nerve, I got dinged for less, two weeks ago and they took down the whole dang thread

If Boston returned, I seriously doubt Feagin would hang around. She would start on most teams in the country now.

Yes, but the chance of winning a Natty is diminished. Ask, Rivers at NC State. Dawn has taught that the importance of having a winning team is having an effective bench. Truth be told, if Feagan starts next year, she will only be effective if she plays 20 to 25 minutes. At least we know Boston and members of the starting unit will not be burned out come playoff time.

That word again. That word that diminishes the grandeur of the national championship.

No one cares about any women's sports anyway so the decision really boils down to whether a player wants to get paid for playing a game no one cares about. The fact the average WNBA salary is around $102,000 and the average NBA player makes $7,500,000 tells you all you need to know about the audience size for women's basketball.

There is no debate… Women’s basketball in general does not make money. The only point that I have landed on is women’s basketball players at South Carolina and some other schools play in front of way more fans than any WNBA team night in and night out. The Bill Burr video speaks to the WNBA not college basketball. But overall there are parallels.

I like watching South Carolina play in most any sport. Sure I have become a bigger fan of our women’s team because of the excellence they exude. So yeah, on any random Tuesday night or Sunday or Thursday, I am always watching them if they are on TV.

Winning a national championship is less likely to keep someone staying when they've already won one and possibly could have two by the end of this season. Rivers and Littleton won a national championship with us last year and they are both thriving and are making a larger impacts at other power 5 programs.

If it includes about an 8-9 oz. Filet Mignon, I'm in. Even better; I am open to paying extra for removing the crab meat from the shells and putting them on top of the filet with hollandaise sauce on top to make it "Oscar" style.
For me right now it's one or the other when going out. 1 cluster at some places is $21, and that all you get.

Your use of the word "nobody" is inappropriate in this forum. You would have at least garnered some respect had you used the term "relatively few people"........

The only crabs we have here that is local is blue crabs and stone crabs (very few). The popular Alaskan snow or king crabs are more expensive than the local blues. In the last 3-5 years, both of those types have doubled or more in prices. They are still selling, and until they aren't, they will continue to be expensive. I expect that the blue crab prices will dramatically increase in price as a result.

Everybody likes to say that nobody cares about women's sports. When it comes to USC women's basketball that is completely false. In the 2021 football season we had a total home attendance of about 488,125 (7 home games including clempson). The same year the WBB team had a home attendance of 196,288. Obviously more games played by the WBB but the point is if you take the total attendance of ALL games that the WBB played in (home and away), our girls saw an attendance of 272,864, over 80,000 more than the next team Iowa State.

Our home attendance of our WBB team is 40.2% of our football team. More people watched our WBB team in 2019-2020 than watched the following football teams: (only a small sample)

Army West Point
Boston College
Duke
Maryland (may be off a little here by 20,000 depending on source)
Navy
Oregon State
Rutgers (another close call)
UAB
Utah State
UTEP
Vanderbilt
Wake Forest
Washington State
Plus every FCS, Division II and Divison III team.

Plenty of people care about WBB at our school, including our alumni and fans.
