I had high hopes for him, but he appears to be over his head. His strategy of observing for a year isn’t working out.
LOLOL that wasn’t SalmonDude, he just scored us 8 million dollars. He is doing his primary job well.
Beat me to it.LOLOL that wasn’t Salmon
And you’re going to end up with the same pool of candidates. Guys no one is coming here if you keep firing coaches every year.If we could fire Arnett last year, we could fire Lebby this year. I know all the reasons not to. But I’ve never seen head coach & staff look so clueless what they’re supposed to be doing.
He’s a problem. But he’s not THE problem.Selmon is not the problem. At least not currently.
We had a candidate pool of 1 last year. Selmon was always going to hire his friend from Oklahoma. I do agree we probably have to give him a 2nd year. But the rest of this season could be historically ugly. And you’re going to end up with the same pool of candidates. Guys no one is coming here if you keep firing coaches every year.
We have no choice. We are stuck with it. We will have to live with the pains of hiring a green horn.We had a candidate pool of 1 last year. Selmon was always going to hire his friend from Oklahoma. I do agree we probably have to give him a 2nd year. But the rest of this season could be historically ugly.
Everybody knows this. The mistake was made last year. Well, and the year before that by Keenum too.And you’re going to end up with the same pool of candidates. Guys no one is coming here if you keep firing coaches every year.
Honestly, should have just kept Arnett & given him 1 more year. We did win 5 games last year.We have no choice. We are stuck with it. We will have to live with the pains of hiring a green horn.
We probably decrease this year too. But at least our defensive staff was more experienced. We weren't recruiting well with him on defense either.Honestly, should have just kept Arnett & given him 1 more year. We did win 5 games last year.
In hindsight, not a terrible idea. But…..definitely hindsight after seeing this trainwreck.Honestly, should have just kept Arnett & given him 1 more year. We did win 5 games last year.
This is so 17ing stupid. We had a candidate pool of 1 last year. Selmon was always going to hire his friend from Oklahoma. I do agree we probably have to give him a 2nd year. But the rest of this season could be historically ugly.
I think Salmon really thought Lebby would work here. He’s that dumb to the real world. This is so 17ing stupid.
Using this logic, you’re saying Selmon never wants to elevate his position in college football. Just wants to hire his “friends” and watch them fail and say, “hey, I was a real AD once!!”
We had no choice but to fire Arnett. The problem was that he never should’ve been hired. And no sitting coach is going to walk into a situation where we just fired a coach after one year and literally lost every 17ing starter from the year before.
You truly suffer from Lebby Derangement Syndrome.
This is the correct answer. We need a competent DC and bring in better OL and things will improve. Just not this year. They’ll have to take their scheduled beatings this season.Lebby just needs to learn his lesson, fire the DC, and hire someone who has done that job before. He can get the offense going in time. Having an offensive minded head coach who has never done the HC job before and then also hiring a DC who’s never done that job before was a recipe for what we are seeing now. Mullen knew to hire a proven DC, even if it’s an average or below average one, is fear was needed in his Year 1.
Imagine how much more it could have been had he done a hood job.Dude, he just scored us 8 million dollars. He is doing his primary job well.
Yep. This in loads. Quick emotional decisions rarely go wellIn hindsight, not a terrible idea. But…..definitely hindsight after seeing this trainwreck.
Better idea would have been to get a real, sure thing experienced coach last year.
When has this ever worked out? Ever?I don’t necessarily think Lebby is totally doomed. But he will certainly have to make staff adjustments and bring in enough players next year to show significant improvement.
If we could fire Arnett last year, we could fire Lebby this year. I know all the reasons not to. But I’ve never seen head coach & staff look so clueless what they’re supposed to be doing
Circumstances don’t matter. Only performance. And right now, Arnett > Lebby. He came into a bad situation too and won 5 games. Would 1 more year be any worse than where we are now?arnett was fireable after 1 year due to the rare circumstances that led to his hiring . Those circumstances do not apply with Lebby.
Yeah but you at least see some competence in the first year.Lots of schools have sucked the first year and improved the second.
everyone on offense would have left and we'd be exactly where we are now. no one would have come to play in that offense with Arnett's staff. Defense may have been a little better but I'm guessing not much if any. there just isn't much talent on either side of the ball and I at least think Lebby will get the offense going provided he can get some linemen. Defense, I don't know?Honestly, should have just kept Arnett & given him 1 more year. We did win 5 games last year.
So you really thought Lebby would come in on year 1, bring in an entirely new staff replace the whole roster and we'd be back to what 5-7, 6-6, 7-5? It sucks losing to Non-conf opponets but other than Toledo and E Ky, the other two were toss ups at best before the season.I think Salmon really thought Lebby would work here. He’s that dumb to the real world.
And nobody dislikes Lebby. By all accounts he’s a nice guy. Certainly don’t want him to fail. But this is about business, and he’s a big softie like Moorhead and we all know how that ends.
I'm not sure what i'm seeing is incompetence or lack of talent. The talent level is the poorest I can recall.Yeah but you at least see some competence in the first year.
the whole ‘give Croom time’ crap is a figment of the idealist imagination
I'm not sure what i'm seeing is incompetence or lack of talent. The talent level is the poorest I can recall.
So we're just holding onto the $ ? It's not like everyone else in the country wasn't looking at the talent pool and offering to the best available and most had the coaching staff in place already and didn't look dysfunctional the previous year. If I was a player and I saw the 2023 season on film and knew the whole coaching staff was let go with a completely new staff coming in, I don't think I'd go to that school if I had other options. There are reason's people work at MickeyDees and not Tesla, it's talent level. In a time when schools do not have to recruit and convince players, but just pay them and they can play on day 1 with no transfer penalty, we have done a horrible of evaluation. Who is the person in charge of evaluation?
What baffles me is his insistence that everyone is giving great effort. I know his perspective is different than ours but I’m watching guys half azz it out there on defense. Multiple guys are half heartedly swiping at ball carriers rather than trying to square up or wrap them up.If we could fire Arnett last year, we could fire Lebby this year. I know all the reasons not to. But I’ve never seen head coach & staff look so clueless what they’re supposed to be doing.
He looks even more in over his head than Arnett did last year. What baffles me is his insistence that everyone is giving great effort. I know his perspective is different than ours but I’m watching guys half azz it out there on defense. Multiple guys are half heartedly swiping at ball carriers rather than trying to square up or wrap them up.
Could? It WILL be historically ugly. Maybe the Oline gets a little better but the defense has nothing to draw on. I’m only forty years old but this is about as bad a defense as I have ever witnessed in a Bulldog uniform. We had a candidate pool of 1 last year. Selmon was always going to hire his friend from Oklahoma. I do agree we probably have to give him a 2nd year. But the rest of this season could be historically ugly.
