They were really called Jeepers? I bet you got really good at fist-fighting, or really funny to get them off you.

They were indeed and says so right where the star should have been. Certainly didn't help mitigate the humiliation but as noted, I survived it all.
You will note they were trademarked, exclusive to Sears Roebuck & Co AND Made in the USA! I was happy to represent them in hindsight.**

What shoes take 2nd place?
As a kid in Memphis, the other shoe I remember being excited about were the Penny’s. Mom took me to the Raleigh Springs Mall to get these. The Penny II’s.

Nike Ambush Air Adjust with the strap that was interchangeable. Mid 90s. Loved playing in those shoes.

Nike killed Pony, but I do wonder what ever happened to that company.
