I don't know enough about baseball to judge Justin Parker, but he was associate head coach/pitching coach at Indiana as well. If only we had an AD who knows more about baseball than I do, Parker could get a good evaluation.

If you ever fired someone who wasn't an awful human being, you know that it comes with some heartache and soul searching on their part. You sometimes have to fire people, but nothing wrong with understanding how that affects them and their loved ones.

As a young guy fresh out of school I was faced soon with hiring and firing, a lot. The firing bothered me for awhile but an older guy that worked with me enlightened me. He said in a nutshell
"everybody has problems, we all do. But when someone else problems become your problems and the company's problem, then WE ALL have a problem and you are the one that is faced with solving that problem. If you don't solve that problem, you then become a part of the problem as well and someone is possibly going to have to fire you too!"

After thinking about that I honestly never had an issue telling anyone to hit the streets. Some I was nicer to than others but usually explained the situation fully and why they had to go and it was never a further issue. I lost 1 unemployment claim to a former employee in my life and shouldn't have lost it and still don't understand how the unemployment judge saw it how he did. I fought every one of them I thought was deserved and won, and I let a few go unchallenged because it really wasn't a bad employee but circumstances were circumstances and they had to go and deserved the compensation. I think that record showed and helped reinforce to me that I was doing the right thing every time.

Dan was just an OC when we hired him, and that turned out to be one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.
What other decisions are even in the conversation?

Joining the SEC in 1932
Firing Larry Templeton and Hiring Greg Byrne
Hiring Ron Polk

Hiring Babe McCarthy
