The rumor according to some Auburn paid site is that the Newtons wanted Auburn to offer Cam because the they(Newtons) feel like MSU is a step down compared to Auburn's program!

Newton and his family, plus the Auburn QB roster is very thin and possibly worse if Rollison is dismissed from the squad (there are some rumors about this)......We shall see but I still think we've got a good shot but at the same time, I'm not gonna hold my breath........

would have to pressure Auburn to give Cam an offer? That part just seems strange! Auburn may have been after Newton for the last couple of weeks or months but to think that the Newtons would have to beg for an offer just seems like B.S.! I understand why you are worried. I totally agree with you though. Lets just hope that Mullen's relationship with Newton is as strong as we think it is.

Are so sure he is theirs and its strange that he pushed back the date he was going to announce to fit this trip in. Then this other qb from cali pops up, The timeline of events makes me concerned.

Do you think that Mullen put the full court press on him and gave the ultimatum. He turned him down and that is why we are looking at the other JUCO guy.

if he was going to make a trip to Auburn and now four days later he is committed to Auburn? It may be true but I'm not buying it until he announces. Then if he chooses Auburn, I may look back and believe some of these rumors.

to Auburn.

First, he's going to announce on the 15th. Then AU gets involved. Date gets pushed back to the 22nd. Now we have another JUCO qb coming for a visit in 2 weeks. Cam Newton will be a Tiger.

two days before Newton decide to make his trip to Auburn and a day after his OU visit. If anything you could say that he may be going to OU because of the time line.

There is nothing more than simple speculation and a few bold cb9 type predictions. They seem to not be too worried about the qb situation without newton. I am by no means acquainted with Auburn's roster of backup quarterbacks, but one poll asked who would be starting and there were like six names, so there will be competition.

The train of thought over there seems to be that they are willing to give him a chance *despite* his past transgressions. Of course, they will be ecstatic to pull him, but what I have been reading is they are kind of lukewarm towards the situation. I guess this attitude comes with being middle tier SEC as opposed to lower tier SEC, such as the case here.

There may be some major claims of Newton committing, but I have not seen them.

that he didn't want to go where he'd be platooned with another QB. And, supposedly, that was after he'd named his "Final 3".

Recruits say a lot of things.

that Dan Mullen gave Cam Newton, or will give anyone else an ultimatum to commit. Unless we want to royally piss them off. If Dan did give him an ultimatum, I will be highly pissed. But I seriously doubt he did. Ultimatum's are something that a guy like Croom would do- in other words, someone that has no idea how to recruit or how the recruiting game is played. I could see Croom doing that with Perilloux. But I can't see Mullen doing that with Newton.

The "other JUCO guy" is nothing more than a back-up plan.

There was no ultimatum but our coach may still know something we don't. Guess we shall find out soon enough.

I'm sure you've been told before that there's no such thing as a 1-star...just not evaluated yet. I watched his vids though and wasn't terribly impressed with the arm strength.

To me but you can't tell a whole lot from the vids, the crowds sounded like an academy game though. Of course most of the passes I saw on the cam passing vid I thought would be picked off in sec... But maybe not...
