I think most of the people with half a brain here understand to not take him literally.
Yeah, but what about the folks with a full brain?

I think, over the last few years, we've learned that, when folks say something really stupid and/or dangerous, and folks rush to their defense with "don't take them literally," those defenders are wrong at least half the time. Never underestimate the stupidity/illegal/immoral behaviors of others who openly talk about acting stupidly/illegally/immorally, in jest or otherwise.

My good buddy lives in Fishtown and he hates sports. He is not looking forward to this weekend.

Everyone isn't watching. Close friends of the Gambits are hosting an Anti-Super Bowl Party and we will be there. It will be just 4 couples and each is bringing a favorite dish. My wife and I are making Stuffed Cabbage, the hosts are making Hot Sausage, and a 3rd couple their specialty pizza. Couple 4 is bringing a surprise dish but the husband is a gourmet chef and sommelier so I expect something spectacular. I have nothing against the Super Bowl and hope the Eagles win, but all 4 couples are old friends and the conversation is always scintillating so I look forward to a memorable evening.

I say go out and get it. You only live once and you may never see another Superbowl.

You rattle off a few in a short period of time and think it will keep happening. Next thing you know you haven't won't a playoff game in almost a decade.

Yeah, I’m at the gym and it’s all “Damn, those Gibbs teams were great.”

Your team is the prime example. Unfortunately mine is now too.

I had work screw me on the first two of the Steelers' modern era Superbowls. I vowed never again I shall party into the night to celebrate the next Superbowl win. Now I can't even stay up to finish night games and there won't be any good superbowls any time in the foreseeable future.

My cousins are lifetime Washington fans and they all say that Eagles fans are the worst. Don’t shoot the messenger.
I guess he’s never been around Iowa Fans - I do find the East Coast Pro Sports Fans to be more “intense” than the Midwest and West Coast ones - heard in the radio guy was in KC this week from Philly with all his Eagles Gear in and was disappointed the only responses he got was - good luck on Sunday. Different mentalities

The word passionate comes to mind as opposed to intense.

OK, but he said “the city is going to burn.” Maybe I am wrong, but I think he has something other than partying in mind
Guy believes in what he's doing, so he considers it "a pleasure to burn." In other words, he feels he's doing his patriotic duty by helping to rid the world of a provocative culture of Philadelphia with pepper spray.

Next Steelers Superbowl, I'm watching in Pittsburgh and hoping to briskly walk through the streets with glow sticks to celebrate if you care to join me. 😏🤣

Passionate can become douche pretty quickly if you aren’t careful - I find, myself included, to be a passionate PSU Fan and I find most others to be the same - and yes there are idiot PSU fans but most tend not to cross the line into intimidation and assholery - more than a few Eagles fans tend to cross that line so do NY and DC fans do as well. Cheer like a madman for your team but fans of other teams should be able to walk in and attend and walk out of a game at opposing stadiums- a pipe dream I know but one shouldn’t revel in being a jerk - again a generalized statement but I would never bring my kids to an Eagles game and they have attended dozens of PSU games - just a different vibe for me but to each his own.

100%. Most NFL fans are fine ... but there's definitely a larger contingent of trashy a-holes who get drunk and look for trouble/act tough at NFL games than at other pro sports and, definitely, college sports that I've attended. And Philly has their more-than-fair share of those a-holes, no doubt. That said, the ones that aren't a-holes are usually more knowledgeable/better acting (they know what's going on, and when to, and not to, react, and how) fans than the ones at less intense markets. That's generally the case up and down the eastern seaboard, until you hit VA, at least (I haven't experienced the ones below that boundary).

Didn't expect a Spanish Inquisition...

Passionate is Passionate and Douche is Douche. IMHO, douches are just douches in general. Passionate is cheering/supporting your team and not being a complete arse to other fans and just plain ignoring the opposing teams fans. I cringe when I experience PSU fans acting like douches(you should stand by where the visiting team goes back and forth to the locker room at Beaver Stadium if you want to see what I mean by differentiating btwn douche and passion). Eagles fans, any teams fans, that do that to opposing fans are just plain douches. I think we are on the same page here.

It's not a shock that WFT fans would talk crap about Eagles fans. But are they really the worst?? Check this one out....

PREGNANT WOMAN CHOKED
I think it's pretty well settled that Eagles fans are the worst, overall, in the NFL.

From one of many rankings that have Eagles fans as the worst of the worst ...

"They throw beer at fans from other teams, they won't stop bragging about 38-7 even though they won the super bowl, and they are just in general violent. Everyone hates them, and for good reasons. These people seriously should go to a mental hospital. They swear at 99 year old grandmothers, punch horses, wear dog masks, and beat up and send people to the hospital. I hope that God will see this and punish them for their sins. I do not care what people say about 38-7, the only thing we Vikes were upset about was how you reacted to it. I was so happy to see Philly get triggered over the Viking's green jersey tweet. I seriously hope the NFL investigation goes well and Philly has to play more away games, but hey, it's the NFL. You can get away with that stuff. The worst part is that they are proud about it. Weasels.

------------------

I'm a Giants fan, and I have respect for Philadelphia. Not all Eagles fans are bad. But I voted on them because of the way that some Eagles fans treat opposing fans. They constantly brag when they win and they think that all of the sudden, they are the best team in the NFL and they always will be when the win 1 super bowl. 1 SUPER BOWL. Win some more Super Bowls and maybe have all Eagles fans treat other fans with respect. Like I said though, some Eagles fans are very nice. The few that are awful need to grow up.

-------------------

I just can't understand Eagles fans. They throw beer and batteries, attempt murder on fans, send people to hospitals, burn their city, are known for being the only nfl team with a jail cell in their stadium, swear at 99 year old harmless grandmothers, verbally make explicit threats, and spam on official Twitter accounts, think other fans are being salty when they say that these things happened, and yet, contradictory to their denial, are proud of these things.. It is no wonder that Americans are so looked down upon by other countries. This is what Philidelphia sports is all about. Of course, not every Eagles fan is gonna be this way, and it is sports. I just hope that Eagles fans are happy next season when their home games get cancelled.

-------------------

Violent *** throw full glasses of beer at other teams fans, purposefully vomit on 11 year old girls heads, set streets on fire and start riots the moment they win the super bowl. Their fans are so despicable that they have to have a jail cell and judge under their stadium. Those jag offs stole awesome Viking SKOL chant and changed it to the FOLES chant. Case Keenum had to protect his family at that game and Chris Thompson said "it's the one football stadium you don't let your family go to. I HOPE Philly fans all die off. You are the unwiped anus of the NFL."

-----------------------

Basically, most people view Philly fans as the violent version of sluggo and mombanger.

Thank you for illustrating the 8-year old boy mindset.

I've lived in eastern MA for over 25 years. I've seen a lot of championships in a lot of different sports in that time. It's not a big deal. It doesn't make me feel better, or worse, about myself when a team I root for wins.

And I've never felt the need to get violent, or riot, in celebration of the team I root for, or to defend their "honor."
