The point of the thread is so that old guys can whine about music they don't like that has been part of the musical landscape for half a century. The key here is "we don't like it so therefore it's bad and we want to constantly complain about it".
I don't watch the CMT's, grammy's, Oscars, or any other BS like that because art is subjective to begin with. Oh well....I'll just make this an impromptu hip hop thread and I'm not a hip hop guru by any means, but I do appreciate some of it from my childhood.

I like jazz. I also like hip-hop, R&B and a bunch of other musical genres. Yippee for me. I don't usually take the time to throw snark at ones I don't find as appealing, however.
Its a lot like everything, some good, some not so good.
Many of you might not like it but it influenced a lot of artists you might like..

So, my friend, is there no place to be critical? Not that it is all bad, but much of rap/hip hop lyrics are either vulgar, sexist or racist. I never had an opinion on this 'music' until I started paying attention to the lyrics. My criticism is not directed at another generation, but simply to a genre of music. This is what I was raised on, every Saturday night in a house with one television.
I like almost all genres in at least some form. I also like mockery though.. here’s my favorite as it relates to music:

Like I said SSDG as that was the same exact thing said about rock and roll about 40-50 years back if not longer. Offensive lyrics like this?

There are countless rock songs just like this and even worse by some of the most popular artist ever. Yacht Rock is a genre I love, but have you ever really listened to Steely Dan lyrics and the messages? Pretty twisted and they were far from the only ones. Not all hip songs are offensive either just as all rock songs aren't. Jazz man...you realize jazz was once demonized too....right? It was the "devil's music". I'm not some hip hop/rap guru at all, but listen to some of it. It's certainly not my top genre, but some of it has been great over the last 4-5 decades.

Point taken. However, I don't believe Rock's lyrics reaches the level of vulgarity as rap/hip hop. Btw, I've performed in all genres, and IMHO and many others, the best musicians are jazz musicians.
I don't dispute that jazz has some of the most talented musicians around, but I didn't start a thread trying to poopooo on a genre for really no reason at all. I love some jazz that comes over my way....also really like Latin jazz hybrid which to me is the better brand of jazz, but that is just my take.

Just simply expressing my opinion. I thought that this was a medium to do that. Lord knows my wife doesn't want to hear my opinions.
I despise cancel culture that is why I still go to Disney, drink Bud Lights, while eating M&M's and praising the FBI as well as Colin Kapernick. LOL....it's the lack of self awareness for some while they try to make a point that is funny to me.

Agreed. I display the American flag at my house and love singing the National Anthem at events.
Lol.....and just to be clear. I have no issues with people enjoying hip hop 'music'. I simply have an opinion about the genre of music. Nothing more. Nothing less.I don’t disrespect the national anthem with my singing.
