If you "go down to the shore", you will be identified as a shoobie by everyone who "goes down the shore".
Depends where you go on the shore.

Headed to Avalon. Fingers crossed for good weather.
I am Cooler By a Mile as we speak. Just got done playing Shoregate..nice track. Place is a ghost town right now....Windrift is almost empty. Unreal, never saw it like this. BTW..don't get gas in town. Head out to SH on Rt 9 near the hospital....$.75 cents a gallon cheaper than the gas station near the WaWa on 30th street. Avalon Seafood is awesome...heading to Cafe Loren tonite!!

My wife and I decided to bring down the little one for the weekend and stay at the Icona. Hoping it is more family friendly than party friendly, but if we like it, we will do it a few more times this summer. Thanks for the tip on the gas and seafood! Proper seafood is high up on our list!

We are staying across the street. Spur of the moment trip...Desert Sands...3 nights for $450 total, they buy the 4th night. Only issue this week was the cool temps and the wind. Windrift/Icona beach has been empty. You need to do a pizza from The Concord Cafe!

For the best pizza come up to Manco and Manco’s. The new place by the Music Pier is insane. The white deluxe pizza at Sacko Subs at 55th St is very good also if that’s your preference. Anyway head across the boards to Shrivers for some salt water taffy to take back or maybe some Johnson’s popcorn for a late night snack.

I'm afraid if you want the best salt water taffy you'll have to drive up to Atlantic City. Fralingers or James, your pick.

I find this thread interesting in northeast dialect. Is it "going down to the shore" or "going down the shore"?
Which non-English dialect approves of the wording "interesting in northeast dialect"?

It's really a Phildelphia/South Jersey-Mid Jersey thing. It's "going down the shore". Once there, you may get in the "wooder".
Not really. A lot of the uneducated, trashy locals in eastern MA talk about going "down the Cape." It's awful. No, you're going to the Cape.

I hope you're not insinuating anything here? Just in case you are: **** You!. If not, perhaps you have trouble understanding that "down the Cape" is not the same as "down the shore".

Do you like being a pompous ***?

"down the Cape" and "down the shore" are exactly the same thing. Except one specifically refers to the Cape, and the other, generally refers to the shore. Other than that, they're the same bastardization of the language, for the same purpose. Up here, when we go "down the shore," we go "down the Cape."

Regardless, I'm going "down the field" or something. No beach time for me. Another weekend of non-stop baseball action watching my boys in Memorial Day tourneys. Possibly dodging lightning in the process.

And, yet, I'm entirely correct. Was there anything in my entirely correct statement you wished to dispute, or did you just want to spew an unfounded insult to make yourself feel better about some other issues in your life?

I’m not familiar with the Cape. But I suppose if you lived in the northern part of the Cape, you could go south which could be described as going down the Cape, right?

I'm originally from eastern PA, and I now live in eastern MA. Actual geography only has a tenuous grasp on the descriptions of what townies are going down on, in either location. "Down the Cape" is a phrase uttered by natives/locals that don't live on the Cape (well, they could have a second home there) ... but they're visiting for the day/weekend/whatever.

Leaving for Cape May 7AM Friday morning. I’ll be at Harry’s for happy hour if you want to buy me that drink.

I grew up at the Jersey Shore. I don’t miss it much but Memorial Day weekend is one time where I really wish I was back there. The energy is palpable.
First time in about 4-5 years I'll be back in a few weeks for some graduations/family parties. Thankfully I'll miss the parking lot of the Parkway for Memorial Day weekend, but the beach towns are usually buzzing.

Our favorite place to go. Rent a house close to beach every August.
My grandparents had a beachfront house on Dagsworthy Street, across from the life saving station, replaced by condos in 1980. I spent time there every summer. My uncle and aunt had a place on oceanblock Swedes Street. Before my kids were in school we’d spend our spring break week there. There’s a lot of history on that beach for me and my cousins. I walk that beach reverently.

The house that we rent is on Clayton Street. We had an incredible view until last year when a new property was put up. We were there several years ago when a car ran into Chicken Ed's and it got destroyed by fire. It was a good local business to get a quick meal.

We have our first grandchild on the way and hope to have walks on the beach with our son/daughter-in-law with our grandchild.

I noticed your handle and am assuming that you are PSU class of ‘78. I am too, although I didn’t graduate. Regardless…

Have you tried Avalon Brewing next to Windrift? - pricey but beers are OK and they have kegs cut in half for urinals - sweet.

I used to love Jacks when we rented in Avalon after College - gone now but at least Fred's and Princeton are still around - in the Crest now so hang mostly at the Wharf and Beachcreek - nice outside bars and I can ride my bile to them.

Fred's and Princeton are the only pubs down here that have the BTN....
