Lol. Stone harbour, Long Island, wildwood. Let’s run to the shore because you can’t go into the water because it is too f@@&ing cold!!! I never understood that. Every time I went to those places in may, I saw 10000 people on the beach and no one in the water. Funny thing is I lived right off Jones beach in New York.

now down south? Beach water is warm. Pools are already warm. Yea baby!!

My grandparents had a beachfront house on Dagsworthy Street, across from the life saving station, replaced by condos in 1980. I spent time there every summer. My uncle and aunt had a place on oceanblock Swedes Street. Before my kids were in school we’d spend our spring break week there. There’s a lot of history on that beach for me and my cousins. I walk that beach reverently.
My dad courted my mom on Dewey Beach. My dad loved this story: I was born at 5am on a Friday in June and at 6 am my dad calls his in-laws in Washington with the news. Nobody picks up. Where could they be at 6am on a Friday morning? Ah, I need to call Dagsworthy Street, success. I am told that the greatest party in the history of Dewey Beach took place that night.

My children are adopted. I was told of our second's child's birth while walking on Dewey Beach with my 18-month old daughter, on Father's Day. We were staying at the Swedes Street house and my aunt was there, a surrogate mother for me since I lost my mom (her sister) when I was 10. (We decided on a name just as we got onto the Bay Bridge, while racing to the hospital.)

Like I said, a special place. I walk that beach reverently.

Great story, thanks for sharing. I can only imagine the complex calculations and mathematical theories you developed while walking the beaches.

Grew up going to NJ, MD and VA Beaches. Lived in WPA for 2 years and visited Presque Isle once. While I'm sure each holds a certain charm, once I visited the Caribbean and Hawaii, it was game over. I can't do murky water. I need clear or mostly clear water.

I'll be with family in PR for 10 days in a couple of weeks. I can't wait to visit as many beaches as possible!

Are your daughters biological sisters? Please don't answer that if it's too personal. I have a couple of cousins who adopted kids, and I just wanted to let you know I think it's pretty great what you and your wife have done.

Yes. This is one of the reasons I consider myself a lucky guy.

The beers are cold at least - the south is nice until June - is it still the “dry heat” down there with 98 degrees and 100% humidity?

For the best pizza come up to Manco and Manco’s. The new place by the Music Pier is insane. The white deluxe pizza at Sacko Subs at 55th St is very good also if that’s your preference. Anyway head across the boards to Shrivers for some salt water taffy to take back or maybe some Johnson’s popcorn for a late night snack.

Sorry man. If you’re talking OCNJ, ROMA on the Boardwalk near the 7th street entrance has Manco and Manco beat by a mile. Pizza is bigger (22”), a LOT cheaper, and EXPONENTIALLY better tasting. Owner knows me as soon as I walk up and knows exactly what I want before I have a chance to open my mouth. Last year, I got the last two pizzas of the season before he shut down for the winter free.

Had one Saturday night!!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

That’s one of the charms of returning to your old stomping grounds. The owner/cook of the Sunrise Restaurant in Dewey Beach, Max, always seemed to give us bigger portions, and the waitresses were always happy to see us.

My inlaws live there, so we will likely be there that weekend as well. I can see myself retiring there some day.
This is one of our retirement ideas and then I look at the price of houses down the shore, holy shiite!!

Yes, real estate is insane there, but everything has blown up the last two years. It has to normalize. If you drive around the area, the number of new developments is like nothing I've seen before.

For sure - Lots that were vacant for the last 20 year are all being built on and more tear downs and this is in Wildwood Crest not Avalon or Stone Harbor that has been doing the tear down thing for many years. Thankfully we bought during the trough about 10 years ago - couldn't afford it if we bought in today's market.
