Will Alabama still play their star tonight?

News saying he supplied the gun used for the murder of a female a few weeks ago. He is not charged with a crime but still not a good look and will be investigated. It seems the coach could care less after his comments about it all and will play as long as he can.
I feel we suspend players for having guns on campus and Alabama lets a player still play that provided the gun used to kill someone. Maybe my full facts are off but that is what it sounded like ESPN reported last night and this morning.
I admit I liked Nate Oats and thought he was a good coach but his comments led me to lose alot of respect for him. He basically said he was aware of all of this a while back but since the player was a good kid he didnt feel anything needed to be said. Kind of seen as disrespectful to victims family.

yeah, definitely not a good look for them. We will see tonight, but I think there's 0 chance he plays him tonight. We'll see how much integrity Oats has, but IMO he shouldn't play again until fully cleared by the court.

Going in a different direction, the kid is saying he "thought he asked me to bring it to him so he could go to the gun range." What a joke lol

If I were a coach, you stay on the team until you admit your guilt or you are found guilty in a trial. Its supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. After that you are kicked off the team, suspended etc. depending on the seriousness of the crime.

Was it a dumb thing to do? Yeah. Did he knowingly loan his gun to be used in a murder. I'm sure not.

Just read about it. Brandon Miller didn't supply the guy to Miles. It was Miles gun. He texted Miller and asked him to bring it to him, which Miller did.

Well that seems different than the sportscenter report this morning. Maybe media is getting bits and running with it before all facts are in which is not surprising. It just sounded like they said he "supplied" the gun. Big difference in the two.

I honestly haven't followed the story at all until reading this thread. This is the ESPN article I read:

"Tuscaloosa detective Branden Culpepper testified Tuesday that Miller brought Darius Miles' gun to him on the night of the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Jamea Jonae Harris, after Miles texted him and asked him to do so."

I guess. But then we would know we only won b/c their best player was out. It doesn't make us better as a team.

On the other hand, if he sits and Bama still wins handily, then that makes us look pretty laughable.

It does say something about the state of our basketball team when our fans are practically wishing that an opposing team's star player is complicit in murder so that he cannot play and increases our chances of getting a win.

Well, it's a moot point, since it wasn't actually his gun at all.
Seriously though, and I haven’t been following this story but just seen bits and pieces of it… did he actually take his gun or any gun for that matter to his buddies who were involved? Reports seem to vary.

Until he is at least charged, he should play. Innocent until proven guilty should mean something. Including in a college sports team, your work, etc. Accusations in my opinion shouldn’t mean anything until charges are made.

He didn't commit a crime in the state of Alabama and the coach has known about this for weeks. Why wouldn't he play?

Right. He has not been charged with a crime or accused of a crime and is not under investigation for anything. So why would they sit him?

At 1 - 2 am he goes out to take someone a gun. What difference does it make whose gun it was? What did he think he was going to do with it? Is there some requirement of the testosterone crazed brotherhood that says you have to take a friend his gun no matter what? If he had not taken the gun, that girl would probably still be alive.

I think we all agree he made a very bad decision taking him the gun. That said, what he did was not illegal. Up to the school if they want to suspend him and they already made their decision.

He was ask by one of the others involved to bring a gun to where the other two were. He did and the gun was given to the shooter who later shot a car and killed a female in the vehicle.

What is being considered but has not as of today happened is charging him as an accessory to the murder. But as he was supposedly unaware of what was to take place he may not be charged with anything. The other 2 were denied bond and are awaiting the results of a grand jury at some point. This took place in January so it does not look like Miller will be charged or if so not any time soon.

Right. A lot of bad decisions are not illegal.

Bama shouldn’t need their best player.

Sure but he also didn’t do anything wrong by taking someone’s property back. Not doing so would be against the law. As long as the firearm was legally owned. Which it’s my understanding it was.

Lol… hey buddy it’s 3 o’clock in the morning. Could you run my gun down here to the club? If you don’t, I may call the police on you.

What law did he break by doing so, don’t worry I’ll wait. Doing something stupid doesn’t means you did something worth getting suspended over.

Technically he could be charged as an accessory. Everyone outside of Alabama knows this. Only people supporting this guy are Bama fans.

Miller was not charged with a crime, and Tuscaloosa Chief Deputy District Attorney Paula Whitley told AL.com on Tuesday that "there's nothing we could charge [Miller] with."
