Lombardi was like Bear Bryant, in that they didn't coach football, they coached people. Lombardi would've adjusted his methods to fit whatever he needed. Don't forget that he coached in the 1960's, which wasn't exactly the most peaceful time in American history, and had a lot of players who were a bit counterculture in their thinking. He coached partiers like Paul Hornung and Max McGee (who scored a couple TD's in Super Bowl II with no sleep and a hangover).
Lombardi was a master motivator who knew which buttons to push with each player.
