I hope you like hearing “Tribute to Troy” because ESPN is going to hump and pump that Trojan Horse….. all the way to the playoffs.

"A source within Pitt's program said USC’s coaching staff illegally tampered with Addison. Coaches are not permitted to speak with players until they have officially entered the portal.

"Addison is also being offered a multi-million name, image and likeness deal to leave the Panthers for Southern California, according to sources."

Supposedly turned down $800K from Kentucky and said he would stay at Pitt until this latest development.

I don’t give a damn about the football program. I think I’m better off because if we do this to other schools or tOSU or someone does it to us it would make me physically ill if I did care.

Some say college football died years ago. I did not want to believe it, but I was wrong. It is a full blown professional enterprise now.

When will the University leadership begin the conversation about ending our involvement in a professional sport? The sooner we make this decision the better off we will be. Let’s show some leadership for a change.

But it’s not like many pro sports because this is fans paying to build a roster. With a salary cap it doesn’t really matter how much Joe Littlepeepee would pay to see his NFL team to win because he’s not offering side payments to get around the cap, or at least I’ve never heard of it. Here, whatever fan base wants to part with the most cash to build a roster sits in a pretty good, yet sick, place.

This also means that many of these guys need to seize it when they can because this money source dries up the moment their eligibility is spoken for. And that could be as early as they commit to play in their last year - when there’s no other choice to be made. What will be interesting is how many of the big NIL recipients will still, or start, sitting out late season games to preserve their health. Wonder if NIL will start incorporating big insurance policies to incentivize kids to finish the year.

This isn’t the first, nor will it be the last place in my life where I had to walk away from something I liked because it got tainted so badly.

As much as I hate Pitt, I hope they push the tampering angle and don’t let up. This reeks so bad and is terrible for cfb if this kind of stuff starts happening more.
Who enforces that?

I keep coming back to the idea of if it is even worth it to play ball in this climate. I know the school makes a ton of money off of football and generally speaking, football has been maybe the single most positive thing to happen to Penn State(financially/reputationally). The problem is, we can't really win a national championship in this environment. Frankly, the SEC schools, OSU and Clemson have been playing at a different level for a number of years, even before NIL deals, sure, they were providing under the table payments to recruits and players for years. If we can't really compete at the top level, I don't see our alumni opening up the pocketbooks for players, can a secondary league be formed? Take the 20-30 colleges that want to professionalize this stuff and pay big money to attract other teams players....fine, do it. The other 80 schools, your players get scholarships, your coaches can ONLY make a maximum of I don't know, $1 Million a year. Players go to class, graduate, sure the great ones might jump to the new league or go to the NFL, that's fine. Honestly, I'd rather win a championship in that league, it would be pure and for the right reasons. It would align with other sports at colleges. Paying players $2M to leave their school, paying coaches $7M, it's just ridiculous. That's fine if people in Alabama want to spend their hard earned money on a WR from another program, god bless them, I don't and I suspect most of our fans don't....so how are we going to compete in this landscape?

Addison is a star. Would Mike Trout want to play for a minor league team if he had a chance to play in the majors? Addison probably worked hard to develop his skill. Why should he not get the chance to play for a big time program in a big time conference? Maybe he is sick of playing in front of 20K sleepy fans every week and would like to occasionally showcase his skills on national TV. Maybe Addison is tired of playing against cupcakes and wants to show the world that he can excel against big time teams. That could improve his draft status.

What would you do if you were Addison?

Going to the PAC 12 is competing vs Big Time teams? USC us the closest to Big Time and it appears he will play for them. Not against them. The only big name program USC plays regularly is Notre Dame.

Is there big time teams in the PAC 12 besides USC?
Oregon, Utah, Washington State, Arizona State, Oregon State, USC, UCLA -- in my opinion all better than any team in the ACC Coast Conference

Anyway, Addison is going to enter the protal from where he will get offers. Maybe he will end up at Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State, or maybe even Penn State.

For anyone who saw Pat Kraft's introductory press conference, this was one of the first things he mentioned about the problems with NIL -- he said there are programs calling players at others schools and offering them money to enter the portal. He said he supports NIL overall but there has to be enforceable regulations.

I've posed this question before- would Joe have even wanted to coach in today's "game"?
He would have tried in vain to stop what is going on to no avail He always said he felt the kids should get a stipend. But you bring up a great point . But in the end he would have kept going on because it was all he had in his life
