Going to have to try it next time I'm home.

Good pizza but a tarnished history. After the split with Mack who I think went to Wildwood, Manco did some jail time for tax evasion and the wife got probation. Seems it was an all cash business and the number of pizza boxes and other supplies ordered exceeded the the total amount of cash revenue reported to the IRS. There were too many bank deposits of $9,999. If you notice there, all the employees are required to cover their tattoos and they’re all clean cut, used to be all males (likely from the old country). I’m not sure if any of that was illegal. Things are a bit different now but the pizza is still great and there is always a line waiting to get in.

BTW the white pizza supreme at Sac-0-Subs is also excellent as an alternative. Locations are either around 10th and Asbury, or 55th St. I’m also partial to their chicken cacciatore hoagies but that’s another thread.
Very common for those all cash pizza shops to try to outsmart the IRS.

I miss Lio's Pizza in Linglestown so much. I'd pay $100 for a pizza steak or an italian right now. I know I'll never taste that dough again, it was so perfect.

The best stuff down here these days is Jets. Their deep dish is so indulgent. I know it's a chain, but it's small and it's crack.

I’ve had Jet’s out here. It was waaay too heavy for me. I light a light and airy crust. Either in Old Forge style or Detroit style.

Have you had Jigsy’s in Enola? I’m an old forge guy through and through and their redos as good as I’ve had. Having said that, their Chick Fil J — white pizza with chicken and pickles — is crave worthy.

Pizza is a polarizing topic. No doubt New Yorkers and Chicagoans laugh at NEPA pizza.
Absolutely polarizing. I grew up in North Jersey and loved my NY style. Moved to Bucks 30 years ago and loved the Philly style. My sales territory is the entire state of PA, MD NY and Delaware so I've tried every pizza in every corner of the state. Also so many in France, Wales, London, Greece and all over Italy. My (Our) favorite so far is the "Rosa" and Bianco Verde pies at Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix AZ. It was a 2 hour wait last November but well worth it. Experiencing pizza throughout the country and the world is a passion. I noticed Pepe's in New Haven has become a franchise so I'll need to go to New Haven first. I tried all the local Philly places which could be a separate thread. Like to hear what others think.

Pepes doesn't franchise- every location is family owned, uses the same ingredient suppliers, and same menu. They even went so far as to have the original oven doors replicated by having molds made of the originals. I'd still try New Haven first, but they have done a remarkable job of protecting the brand. We've also tried the Mohegan Sun, Danbury, and a couple of their other locations and it's legit at all of them. We were at the Manchester shop last month, and one of the family was there - something they do regularly.

If you’re ever in the Anthracite Coal Region area here are a few to try

Mt Carmel
Matucci’s - been around forever and is still a staple for Friday Night football pre-gaming. Unique flavor and when done “like the old days” it’s tremendous. Also share an Anti-pasta with house dressing.

The bar area was just the-opened after being closed for months due to water damage from the apartment above - looks really nice. 🤔 I may give it a try tonight 🙌

Shamokin
Me Pizza - simple sheet pizza with a single piece of pepperoni 🍕 on each slice - very simple but great - just had it the other day.

Mt Carmel again 😊
Hollywood Pizza and Bakery - again been around forever and sometimes consistency with current workers is questionable, but when it’s on it’s great. Get a few cups of their hot 🥵 sauce to put on it.

Marion Heights
Tower of Pizza - very old and guarded recipe. I was neighbors with the original owner and very good friends with the current owner - only like three to four people know the actual recipe. It’s a thin sheet style pizza that uses sliced cheese. Recommend the Hot 🥵 Cheese 🧀 and Pepperoni 🍕 pie. Slices are small strips and I can pretty much eat a half sheet bt myself 😂

Pizza Perfect is on my list and I will get there soon.

For you folks that love a good slice off the bakery sheet, Tgar has slices the other day from Tuzzi’s in Berwick. This is down right delicious sheet pizza and the white with garlic sensational.

Plan on serving small bites of both this weekend as an appetizer during the Steelers game with shrimp and bacon on top.

My daughter and friends had Giuseppes last week and thought it was great. I think it's the same recipe as the original Brothers. If it is, the original must have been mismanaged because my friends and I graduated in the mid 90's and ate it 24/7. They must have finally ran out of our money.
