As a College Recruit

Possesses a pure throwing motion with one of the quickest releases we've seen from a high school quarterback prospect in recent cycles. Those mechanics pair with a strong arm to make Manning one of the more natural and accurate passers in the 2023 cycle. Has the ability to carve up opposing defenses when kept clean inside the pocket. Has good field vision with the ability to find open receivers downfield. Touts polished footwork and the capability of picking up yards in scramble situations. Has filled out a big frame over his high school career, entering his senior year as the most physically developed top quarterback in the 2023 cycle. Also carries a substantial mental load for a high school quarterback with the responsibility of setting protections. Added velocity as a senior showing improved zip on passes. Turned in an efficient senior season as a passer, throwing for 35 touchdowns against two interceptions at over 10 yards per attempt. Did not play behind a great offensive line, but also took a high number of sacks. Can improve the overall reaction to pressure. Remains a projection against an elevated level of competition given his lack of exposure in neutral settings and varying competition over his high school career.

Arch Manning reminds of his younger uncle, particularly as a passer. The quick releases and arm talent appears to be similar at the same stage. The developmental arcs are similar as well, as both played football and basketball at Isidore Newman. Eli is a bit taller than Arch at the moment, while Arch is more physically developed and mobile at the same stage.

Arch Manning keeps Newman afloat in road loss to Many

Sam SpiegelmanNational Recruiting Analyst

The Newman offense had its hands full with Many without TE Will Randle (torn ACL), especially at the point of attack. Arch Manning was under duress for much of the game while the defense played tight man coverage on the perimeter, which created issues. Nonetheless, Manning leaned on the quickest delivery in the country to find holes and mismatches as they presented themself and mustered positive drives in the second quarter and in spurts throughout the second half. Much of Newman’s success on offense came on quick strikes from Manning — vertically in the seam or in-breaking routes. With the Many defense inhabiting the line of scrimmage, Manning was able to matriculate within the pocket and deliver downfield, but was also sacked on a few occasions. Manning also called his own number a few times, and at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds he moves way faster than he should. Without his leading pass-catcher, the threat of a running game, and receivers struggling to beat press coverage, Manning still shined against an aggressive, physical defense and had the offense in position to tie the game in the fourth quarter.

Arch Manning flashes in fall scrimmage vs. Holy Cross

Five-star+ Texas quarterback commitment Arch Manning is firing the ball out effortlessly and accurately, distributing to his pass-catchers in space and identifying mismatches. He connected on a throw moving to his right in stride to find 2023 WR Anthony Jones accurately downfield to move the sticks on a fourth-down. He was sharp executing in the red zone, though plagued by drops.

Newman is ushering in a new-look offense featuring a new play-caller, new scheme and new personnel. Manning has a daunting schedule on deck on top of it. He may not come out of the gates firing, but he’s going to have a chance to make a national statement this season — and he could be playing his best football when it counts the most.
