Alabama offensive tackle Elijah Pritchett was arrested on Friday for speeding around The Strip in Tuscaloosa. Pritchett was charged with Exhibition of Speed, a misdemeanor, and was briefly booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail before being released on a $300 bond.

Officers observed a black Dodge Charger with no license plate driving erratically near the corner of University Boulevard and Campus Drive, according to Stephen Dethrage of the Tuscaloosa Thread. Pritchett was reportedly driving. When officers began to approach the car on foot, the tagless vehicle changed lanes and sped off toward Frank Thomas Avenue.

Witnesses on The Strip watched the Dodge Charger “driving at a high rate of speed across the intersection of Frank Thomas Avenue and 6th Street.” Two UAPD officers in a patrol car caught up to Pritchett, and they pulled the vehicle over in front of Bryant-Denny Stadium.

“During the time of the driving action of Pritchett, there were numerous people on foot in the area of the Strip and all the businesses in the area,” according to the court documents filed Monday.

If convicted, Pritchett could be sentenced to up to three months in jail, ordered to pay a fine of up to $500 and prohibited from driving within the state of Alabama for up to six months.

Pritchett, a redshirt sophomore, played in all 14 of Alabama’s games last season. He split time at left tackle with freshman Kadyn Proctor during a four-game stretch in the middle of the Tide’s 2023 campaign. Beginning with the SEC opener against Ole Miss, Pritchett logged double-digit snaps against the Rebels, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Arkansas. But after that, he went back to being the backup left tackle behind the true freshman starter.

This spring, with Proctor and JC Latham moving on, Pritchett was the most experienced tackle on Alabama’s roster and worked at left tackle with the first-team offensive line. With Proctor transferring back to the Tide after a brief stop at Iowa, Pritchett could move over to right tackle, which remains up for grabs. But this marks his second arrest in the last five months in addition to a 24-hour period of considering the NCAA transfer portal.
