Georgia signed the nation’s No. 1 class in 2024 according to the On3 Industry Ranking. The Bulldogs were tied with Oregon for the most four-star prospects (18), and had more five-star signees than any other program. The highest-rated of that bunch, IMG Academy cornerback Ellis Robinson, has been tabbed by ESPN as UGA’s most important newcomer in 2024.

“Georgia brought in quite a few big names through recruiting and the transfer portal, including running back transfer Trevor Etienne, who fills a need, and wide receiver London Humphreys,” Tom VanHaahren wrote. “But Robinson is the No. 1 prospect in this recruiting cycle. He’s a 6-foot-1, 180-pound corner from IMG Academy and should be an instant-impact recruit for the Dawgs. He will help continue the longstanding tradition of excellent secondary players and fits exactly what coach Kirby Smart and his staff want in a corner.”

The Bulldogs have some big shoes to fill at the position. After three years with the program and 29 straight starts, Kamari Lassiter is off to the NFL where he’ll likely be a top 50 overall pick. Lassiter was a shutdown cornerback for the Bulldogs in 2023 and played nearly that well in the second half of the 2022 season.

Julian Humphrey returns with 190 career snaps under his belt. He saw quite a few meaningful minutes in 2023 after surging during spring practice and preseason camp. Georgia also brings back tall, rangy cornerback Daniel Harris. The South Florida native, like Humphrey, possesses elite speed and played 34 snaps in the Bulldogs thumping of Florida State in the Orange Bowl. Robinson will battle with both of those players for snaps across from returning starter Daylen Everette.

On3 Scouting on Ellis Robinson…

At 6-feet 175 pounds, Robinson finished the 2024 cycle as the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect and No. 1 cornerback per the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that uses all websites that compile recruiting rankings. He’s also the No. 2 player in Florida.

“Ball-hawking cornerback with plus length, ball skills and refined movement skills. Has shown the ability to make high-level plays on the ball throughout his high school career. Measured close to 6-feet, 175 pounds prior to his senior season. Has plus length for the position with arms that measure a shade under 33 inches. Dominated competition in New York’s Catholic league as a sophomore, bringing in eight interceptions. Robinson made several impressive, acrobatic picks. Moved to IMG Academy as a junior, where he looked like the top defensive back on the Ascenders’ loaded roster. Made strides as a junior relative to his technical skills. Pairs his length and ball skills with refined footwork. Understands routes and generally stays in phase. Embraces matchups against top receivers and is willing to get physical at the line of scrimmage. Also tests as a good athlete in the combine setting. While his speed is good, he does not register as elite for the position. Can continue getting stronger and adding good mass once in a college strength program.”
