The Wolfpacker Show: NC State quarterback preview

NC State has just over a month until it opens fall camp ahead of the 2024 football season. As the team prepares to return to the gridiron, TheWolfpacker.com is previewing each position group with in-depth reporting and features.

This week is all about the quarterback position. The Wolfpacker Show, hosted by Ethan McDowell and Noah Fleischman, broke down NC State’s quarterback room to open the preview podcast series.

In this episode, the hosts discussed:

– Who left the quarterback room after the 2023 season and who the Wolfpack replaced them with going into the new campaign this fall. The Pack had two players depart — either due to graduation or transfer — and it brought in a pair of signal-callers to boost the position group.

– What Coastal Carolina transfer Grayson McCall brings to the Wolfpack offense as the presumptive starter. The three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year has a knack for taking care of the football and Ethan and Noah don’t think that will change at NC State.

– The hosts also talked about freshman quarterback CJ Bailey, a three-star recruit that has received rave reviews from the coaching staff since his arrival. Bailey is expected to be the backup this year and Ethan and Noah broke down why he is a good fit for that role — including what the future holds for the first-year player.

– After talking about the depth chart and the personnel in the room, which includes redshirt freshman Lex Thomas, the hosts gave two reasons why NC State fans should be optimistic about the quarterbacks and two concerns some may have about the room.

– The hosts also took questions from TheWolfpacker.com subscribers about the quarterback room. A common theme revolved around the Pack’s depth at quarterback and why the team did not bring in a transfer to serve as McCall’s backup for the 2024 season.

– Ethan closed the show with an update on the Wolfpack’s quarterback recruiting for the 2025 and 2026 cycles, including Will Wilson, a signal-caller that is excited to join the Pack.
