The Road to the Matchup

USC is 27-5 this season and went into the NCAA Tournament ranked No. 3 in the nation. The No. 1 seed Trojans moved on in the tournament following a 87-55 win over Texas A&M Corpus-Christi in the Round of 64.

JuJu Watkins and McKenzie Forbes each poured in 23 points and USC blocked 14 shots as a team in the big win to open the tournament. The Trojans used a 21-0 run to take a huge first-quarter lead and poured it on after halftime as well. USC shot 52.3% from the floor and got a double-double from Rayah Marshall.

Kansas is 20-12 this season and lost to Texas in the Big 12 Tournament quarterfinals. Kansas won its opening NCAA Tournament game with an overtime comeback win over Michigan, 81-72. The Jayhawks were among the “others receiving votes” in the final AP Poll of the regular season.

Kansas outscored Michigan 23-14 in the fourth quarter to force overtime in their opening round win. Zakiyah Franklin led the Jayhawks with 22 points but Kansas got fairly even scoring from all five starters. Wyvette Mayberry and S’Mya Nichols each had 15 points and Taiyanna Jackson had 14.
