You've mistaken an intolerance for incompetence for misogyny, buttmunch. Looks like Dr. Bendapudi has her work cut out for to insure that PSU graduates incorporate evidence to substantiate their conclusions.

Neeli is in the honeymoon period. Cheerleaders and the Lion greeting her everywhere, receiving lines, glad-handing, scones and lattes flowing like wine. Wait until it passes, she has to do actual work (🤣), and she starts meeting alumni (and people who look like us).

She has actually been hard at work, even before she formally assumed office. I know of one instance where the result must have beeen a disappointment and she took it with grace and aplomb.

Bullsh**. What a load of pure bullsh**. Of course that's the job of any/all university presidents. I again go back to the red dot that one of the board cretans posted in referencing her. I'm sick of this ****. So stop the sanctimonious horse crap. You know who you are.

There are many on here who are complete embarrassments to the University (and society as a whole). Instead of embracing the new leader of our University and giving her the benefit of the doubt, some feel it necessary to denigrate her and cast doubt on her abilities before she even has a chance to prove herself. I, for one, will not only give her the benefit of doubt, but will support her however and whenever I can.

Being an embarrassment to society as a whole is a high compliment. I had no idea we had such reach.

Well, when someone (not you) puts forth reprehensible racist and sexist remarks —which are part of this thread — yes, in my mind they are an embarrassment to society. I know it’s only a message board and it is laughed off by many, but it shouldn’t be.

See the link below. From the article:

”UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In a historic appointment, Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi begins her tenure May 9, as the 19th leader of Pennsylvania’s 167-year-old land-grant university.

For Bendapudi, who grew up in a coastal city in India, leading Penn State is an opportunity of a lifetime given the transformative role higher education has played in her own family. Her father — who left India to attend university in the United States and make life better for his young family — paved a pathway for his daughter to follow.

“I know firsthand the power and purpose higher education can have for individuals, families and communities across the generations. Serving as Penn State’s president is the greatest professional honor of my life, and I will dedicate myself to advancing excellence for all Penn Staters,” Bendapudi said. “As president, I’m committed to creating opportunities to enable student success in and outside the classroom, supporting faculty and staff in their professional and academic endeavors, and encouraging continued partnership and investment in Penn State by our community, friends and the commonwealth.””

And,

”“I extend my deepest gratitude to President Barron for his outstanding leadership,” Bendapudi said. “Penn State has experienced incredible growth and advancements over his tenure, and today we are in an excellent position to continue to thrive while meeting challenges ahead. As with any successor, it’s my responsibility and mission to build on progress and help Penn State reach even greater heights across each of our campuses.”

As she begins her presidency, the University is among the top academic and research institutions nationally and is celebrating a record-breaking philanthropic campaign, among other significant accomplishments.

“President Bendapudi is uniquely prepared to help the University continue to excel in many areas, including academics, student experience, and scientific research and innovation,” said Penn State Board of Trustees Chair Matt Schuyler. “She has a deep appreciation for our tradition of excellence coupled with an innovative spirit focused on strengthening our communities throughout the state and beyond.””

And,

”Even as she continued to teach, Bendapudi put her expertise in customer loyalty and consumer behavior into practice in the private sector. Along with consulting for some of the world’s largest companies and organizations — from Proctor & Gamble to the U.S. Army — she became the executive vice president and chief customer officer for Huntington National Bank, a top-30 U.S. bank with $55 billion in assets at the time.”

And,

“Something I see uniquely at Penn State is a sense of pride, belonging and family,” Bendapudi said. “My goal is to continue to foster that sense of belonging for every student, employee and alumni, and help them find a way to make this special place their own.”

Raise a coffee cup to Neeli. ☕️
This quota appointment left a mess behind at Kansas. Then she went to UL, a school with little academic chops.

Now she finds herself at one of the largest universities in the world, with huge research activities, and a falling academic reputation.

Her resume shows nothing to warrant her employment. Penn State could and should have done better than her.

Anthony, good to see you here. Could you please elaborate? 🙂
Good to be here. Took me awhile to get here…

Firstly, her energy level is impressive. She has engaged the PSU stakeholders (students, alum, legislators, etc…) extensively in her short time on the job.

Secondly, she listens intently and doesn’t believe she has all of the answers.

Thirdly, she is unafraid to make decisions. For example, prior to beginning her tenure as President, she decided to change the responsibilities of the CFO so that one person would be accountable for the entirety of the spend. Rod Erickson unilaterally changed this in January, 2012 at which time he gave the Provost responsibility for the spend in Academia and the CFO the G&E spend. Additionally, she appears to have hired an outstanding Athletics Director.

Finally, she appreciates our history and the importance of Success with Honor.

Thanks, Anthony. This is all great to hear.

Regarding your third point, I have some little background in academe and I can’t tell you how happy I am to read this. It took ten years to get back to the “only way it’s ever going to work” budget chain of command? This is a great decision.

That change is a no-brainer. Unfortunately, she handed responsibility to someone for whom anything beyond determining the sum of 2 + 2 is a challenge.

Yes, it was a a no-brainer to change a particular something that’s been official policy for ten years. That should give people some idea of what academe is like, how hard and politically challenging it can be to make changes. Just because it was a no-brainer doesn’t mean it’s a trivial accomplishment. This and the AD firing/hiring give me hope.

I am truly concerned by all this competence with Neeli and Kraft. barren and Sandy gave us great material for years. What are we supposed to do now? 😞

It's more organizational than policy. Am i surprised that Limp Rod made the change? Not particularly. Am I surprised that the BoT, even one as feckless as PSU's, allowed it? Absolutely.

While I applaud Dr. Bendapudi for making the change, I have a hard time imagining that she encountered much opposition. If she did, PSU is certainly FUBAR and she does have her work cut out for her.

“UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Even before taking the reins as Penn State’s 19th president this month, Neeli Bendapudi spent much of the spring traveling across the commonwealth on her listening tour of the University’s campuses.

Bendapudi said the listening tour provided her with a stronger sense of Penn State’s land-grant mission and the campuses as engines of economic development in their regions. “If you think about the land-grant mission and the promise of social mobility, the campuses show that in true color,” she said. “It’s palpable when you’re on the various campuses — the access, the affordability, the promise.””

I guess it would have been harsh had Neeli shut down the commonwealth campuses on her first visits. Let’s see what she does next month.

Has anyone handed her an index card with the word “Dubois” and ask her to pronounce it?
