He was in trouble after his first season. He lost the first game at Navy, in ‘67. The heat was really turning up. He turned it around at Miami, FL. He started playing his Sophomores as the game went on. He won that game, then lost to UCLA at home, 17-15. He didn’t lose another game until Sept ‘70. 31 games without a loss, two undefeated seasons in a row.Agree. By the criteria of some on here, Joe would have been fired during his first 10 yrs and never got a chance to bring PSU to relevance.
