Exactly. And all we have to do is look at the statement he released to know that he is a standup guy, well respected Iowa and the staff and they felt the same toward him. Folks are making up drama for the sake of a message board. Could the separation been handled better — maybe? But, I am sure Drake didn’t want to leave and Iowa didn’t want him to. But, life works in mysterious ways and everyone can’t coach at Iowa just because they had a solid career.

My guess - dude - is you sign the back of the check and not the front. If you were responsible enough to do that then you would understand why it is inappropriate to recruit others while you are still under the roof of another. Of course his brother is a different story. But you do whatever you think is right. You probably work for a ****** employer and dislike management so I get it - you're scarred. He brought them after he was gone and if you are bright enough to remember they all lost a year of eligibility for it. And if Brands would have told recruits while he was still being paid by VT that he was going to eventually leave and go to Iowa then yes - I would disagree with that. Agreed, for the most part. Drake Ayala seems like a great kid to me, and my level of "give a ****" is real low on this particular situation.

If Drake were an employee of the University and he tried to poach wrestlers for ISU while still on the Iowa payroll, that could be a breach of his fiduciary duty to the University. But he wasn't an employee as far as I know and I doubt his receipt of NIL money made him one. So I don't believe he owed a duty to the University. Was it still bad form, if in fact he tried to poach Iowa wrestlers before announcing his departure? Probably. Are people over-reacting given the unlikeliness that anyone other than his kid brother and best-friend back-up would be tempted to go with him? Probably.

Disclaimer…. I think Drake is a wonderful young man and wish him the absolute best. I just wish he would’ve handled this situation better. I’m sure one day he will too, if he hasn’t already.
