I guess we got outbid for Carter. It would be good to get Tyrone to reverse this trend. You would hope WRs would be lining up to catch Allar’s passes but money talks…..

I was at the basketball game last night and talked to an friend who’s an analyst. Sounds like their confident they will get Cepheus in May. As of now they only plan on 1 transfer at WR. So sounds like Broden is not going to be coming here now.

Who knows about WR anyway. Last year we worried about the LB crew leading up to the season and they were fantastic. Young guys can step up and perhaps, some guys gel better with the new QB.

Literally every single one of our WR's coming back are going to be Junior's, Sophmores and Freshman.
someone will step up.

I don’t see a true freshman needing to be covered by Kalen. Dixon should be able to cover him. If not flip them
Honestly, I’m not really worried about having a capable cornerback ready to play. There is talent back there.

It seems that we might have another name to add to possible WR list.
Noles 24/7 reports that Malik McClain has entered the portal and plans to visit PS soon. He’s 6’4 200+ Lbs. As they say, a good deep threat with good hands. A former 4star. He is a 3/2 kid

I wonder who the PSU long snapper will be for 2023? We were fortunate to have Stoll.

In 2 years, McClain had 2 catches of over 21 yards (one of them against UMass).
That was on a team with a good passing game, that threw downfield a lot.
McClain topped out as the 5th or 6th option at FSU.

Their other WR AVERAGED around 17 yards per catch.

Tall, in this case anyway, does not = "deep threat" (if he had a strength, it was more as a red zone target than a deep threat - but the truth is he just never broke into the rotation there)

I wrote exactly what their beat writer wrote in the article. The replies to that seemed like fans hate to lose him. I get your post, he has a career 33 catches for 396 yards and 5 touchdowns while starting 12 games. 9 of his starts were as a freshman, then they brought in 2 transfers at WR for last season.
I posted it, since he plans to visit PS this weekend or next.

I hadn't seen this posted yet. In my opinion it doesn't go far enough but it's a start

The NCAA Division I Council approved legislation on Wednesday to limit waivers for second-time transfers. Now, undergraduate players who transfer will have specific guidelines they must meet in order to be eligible for immediate playing time starting with the 2023-24 season or risk sitting out a year in between transfers.
First, a player can receive immediate eligibility if they have a physical injury or mental health condition that pushed them to transfer from a school. Additionally, the NCAA will consider "exigent circumstances" that could force a player to leave an institution -- like sexual assault or abuse. No other factors will be considered, including academic considerations or playing time.
The new rules are an attempt to rein in the number of players using transfer portal, which has exploded since it launched four years ago. Nearly 2,000 players in FBS alone entered the portal in the first transfer window following the 2022 regular season. At least 120 quarterbacks alone have entered the portal, including a handful that were expected to enter the 2023 NFL Draft and opted for new starts at the college level instead.
Notably, Rice quarterback JT Daniels just landed at his fourth institution after leaving West Virginia. He played at USC from 2018-19 and Georgia from 2020-21 before starting for the Mountaineers in 2022. With these rules, Daniels would need to graduate in between each of his final two transfers or sit out and risk burning a year of eligibility.

The new NCAA rule only applies to undergraduate transfers. Players who graduate will still be eligible to play immediately at their next stops.

FWIW: I wasn't implying PSU shouldn't "kick the tires" - they definitely need help at WR. But whomever "analyzed" that he was a "deep threat" clearly just looked at "6'-4"" and got lazy.

Every transfer kid will have an "injury or mental health concern"

Are they even trying to be "serious"?

Yep, that's one reason I said it doesn't go enough. The real joke of this are the "exigent circumstances" clause.

But you've got to admit, it's better than what exists today.

Expect to see lots of "chronic hangnail" justifications.

If I'm an NCAA employee reviewing waiver request based on "exigent circumstances" I'd have to ask myselt one or two questions: 1) why is School B taking the kid if he has such serious issues; and/or 2) Why would the kid be better off at School B than remaining at School A? Oh, I forgot, we're talking about NCAA staff.

As some may recall, when the NCAA first announced the "Grad Transfer" bit, the "rules" were that the kid must have completed his undergrad degree - and was looking to pursue a masters level program. But, only if the original school did not have a suitable master's level program, and the desired transfer school did, could the kid transfer without losing eligibility.
Because, of course, this was all about academics, and the STUDENT part of student-athlete. Of course.

The first kid - that I recall - who used the "grad transfer" provision, transferred FROM STANFORD, TO WEST VIRGINIA.

Stanford didn't have a graduate program in Couch Burning.

The ncaa knows what they’re doing. justin fields left uga due to racial hostility. The ncaa allowed him to transfer to T™️osu without sitting out a year because they knew there was no racism in ohio.

Does he retain his scholarship?
Would imagine he would. Can't imagine him coming back if there were no schollies. But, he is still going to be buried on the Depth Chart.

Isaac, Robinson, DDS, Vilbert, Fisher, Vanover....plus incoming kids....
