I have a busy Friday and Saturday (more about that later), so I'm setting this up in advance.

Please use this thread for all pre-Session 1, in-Session 1, and post-Session 1 discussions.

When: March 5, 11 am EST

Where: Pinnacle Bank Arena; Lincoln, NE

TV: BTN (and if you are a subscriber, you can watch on a SmartPhone or a computer via the FoxSports app (https://www.foxsports.com/live/btn). Note, you don't get to control which mat/match is being broadcast.

Streaming: for subscribers, BTN+. Note: you can control the mat/match you watch with this (I believe)

Radio: The radio PBP with Jeff Byers will be streamed for free via LionVision. The pre-Session will start at 10:40 am EST, with the competition at 11 am EST. You can access the radio PBP at:

Live Brackets: You can follow the brackets on TrackWrestling at:

Note: The Penn State Wrestling Club also has live brackets at: https://www.pennstatewrestlingclub.org

Team Scoring: The Penn State Wrestling Club is usually the fastest with that info. Their team scoring information can be found at: https://www.pennstatewrestlingclub.org/content/tournament_team_score.php?id=26&type=team

PBP: I had originally blocked out this weekend to enjoy the tournament. Alas, the ref shortage I've discussed in other threads is still a huge problem, so I ended up agreeing to ref Saturday. As such, I won't be available for PBP in Session 1. (I should be available for Session 2.) @GregPickel will be providing scores and information. I'm sure he could use assistance with mat assignments for upcoming PSU bouts (usually available from the TrackWrestling link listed above, or the Penn State Wrestling twitter account), scores, and PBP. Collectively, we've made this work for everyone in the past, and I'm sure we'll do the same this year. (And FWIW, I have very little free time while reffing, so I'm counting on being able to come here during Session 1 and get some quick updates.)

We Are ...

- ready to hear a roar from Lincoln
- hoping to add the tournament championship to the regular season championship
- looking forward to a great weekend of wrestling

... Penn State!!!

Throwback Saturday with the Pink and Black!
Was it a couple of years ago that PSU rolled out in the original pink and black singlets my thought was that the pink was going to be a wussy pink. No, it was a solid pink (if that’s possible) but they were sharp, in my opinion.

Even if it was a wussy pink, it would not have affected our performance on the mat. As Spencer Lee famously said (and I'm sure Cael would agree), "Excuses are for wusses."

On the Penn State Sports Network, Cael Sanderson tells Jeff Byers before Big Ten tournament begins: "Right out of the gate, every match is huge. This is about getting to the national tournament. We want to be in first throughout today and tomorrow."

Cael on Edsell: "He needs to be confident and be himself. He has all the attributes he needs. Just go be himself. He's wrestled well and wrestled well in big dual meets for us. Just be himself, and he'll be alright."

Cael on Bartlett: "Just go get a takedown. He's just gotten better confidence wise in all positions. He's the same thing as I was talking about with Edsell. Just be confident. He's a great athlete. You have to go get what you want right now. It's the time to do it. You don't get another shot. This is the time to do it."

Cael on the team entering the tournament: "They've been light and just consistent. Very relaxed. Almost too relaxed, but that's a good thing when we compete. They still have to make up their mind and go wrestle great today, tomorrow, and obviously in two weeks. We're in position to do that. They have to do that. It's their goal. We have team goals. I think they're ready to go. We'll see how they compete."

Cael on Hildebrandt and Dean and what they've brought to the room: "Just consistency. They're grateful to be out here. They're doing everything right. They compete hard, and are smiling, and love being part of the team. I think consistency, just being a great example, and bringing good positive energy all the time."

The first enormous upset of the Big Ten wrestling tournament is in. Cayden Rooks of Indiana just knocked off four-seed Chad Red of Indiana, 9-8. Late stall call the difference.
