Is it fair to suggest that we saw pretty passive/conservative wrestling from PSU guys at 125, 149, 157, 165, and 285? To me, it didn't look much like a Cael coached team. I guess I was most shocked by Kerk's refusal to take shots.
Really all year for these weights, although Kerk would beat lower skilled guys pretty hard. Not a lot of constant attack, chain wrestling. Few if any really hard snaps like we have seen in the past. Berge looked good at 157 until this last match. 149, 157 and 165 are just weak weights for us and we knew that coming in......nothing really changed. It is hard to watch.

As we lick our wounds, just remember that 5 finalists is not so awful.
Agree about the five finalists, but then there's the other half of the team. Cael says his squads are always focused on the national team title. This year's B1G results certainly provide him a golden opportunity to prove just that.

We should win 4 or 5 tomorrow, Iowa and Michigan probably only one each. I believe we’ll be fine. That Kerk brain fart really hurts, more for Nationals than this weekend, but we always have a “bad” session and everyone goes nuts. Hopefully this was our “bad” session this year.

Wow, typical nay sayers after a tough match defeat but come on people they have five finalists and 4 favs. Although I’d argue all five should be favorite. Those five guys look pretty hungry to me.

ScUM has 5/1 and Iowa 4/1! Hungry? We’re talking hungry? Get some better stuff to smoke. Plenty of bullets in the chamber. B1Gs is not the goal. Only Hildebrand has disappointed.

149:
Consolation R3: #7 seed Beau Bartlett vs. #6 seed Mike Van Brill (Rutgers) (I'll use MVB)

Per 1
To nobody's surprise, collar ties to start the match. ;) Not much thru 1 min. Not much thru 2 min. Not much thru 3 min. End

Per 2
MVB takes bottom. OOB with 38 sec left. MVB to his feet, to 4 pt, to his feet again, and eventually the esc, 0-1. More collar ties. End. RT @ 45 sec for BB

Per 3
BB takes bottom. BB to a 3-pt stance, turns in, and gets the esc, 1-1. 1:30 left to decide this. Need some offense, Beau. No real shots

SV
More action, but still no real shots. End

TB-1
BB takes bottom. BB tries a shoulder roll but MVB has the knee then the ankle, and a PD call with 14 sec left. To a 3-pt stance, buzzer. End

TB-2
MVB takes neutral. Stall warning on MVB (his 1st). End

With 30 sec in the TB-1, MVB wins in OT.

Ugh
If Bartlett does not win his consolation match, does he still get an at large bid for the NCAA championships. Just wish the young man would try to be a little more aggressive in his matches and not try to win by a point.

The last couple of seasons have been disappointing not just because we didnt win it all but because the fire aggressive always push wrestling just isnt there. Being passive both physically and mentally on the mat. Hard to believe they are being coached by the same people

This is funny to listen to, people do not realize/appreciate how spoiled we’ve been to have the all the greatness that has rolled through over the last decade. We had 4 National Champions last year and at least a chance of having 5 #1 seeds (1/2 the weight classes) this year if Dean wins today. Some folks need to get a grip on reality.

Hildebrandt may have disappointed at B1Gs but if he beats the #12 seed today from Indiana he's going to the big show where anything can happen.
