The Phils bring in Brogdon to pitch the 9th. They must have more confidence in him than I do.

Edit: Hah, he goes 1-2-3, with a called 3rd strike on the final out.

C'mon Man.

Should a team finishing 3rd in their respective division be legitimately on the cusp of participating in the final series for their League?

I say no and that league expansion ruins everything....MLB, NFL, NHL......Big Ten.

What say you?

It’s all about the Benjamins and TV.

Great comments, I won’t rehash. Did anyone else feel that the plate umpire had a pretty generous strike zone? It looked like he gave the pitchers a couple extra inches on the corners. If you give someone like Nola who can generally locate a little bit more, good luck. That curve must have been really tight or the shadows must have been tough, but some of those guys weren’t even close.

What a great day for the Phils, should be exciting day tomorrow.

plate ump -- his strike zone was generous, and inconsistent, IMHO

Nola's curve -- he got Acuna on it for strike 3 on Acuna's first 2 at bats. He definitely had some success with it

Nola in general -- Nola's changeup was nasty. The radio guys were commenting that most Braves were not even attempting to swing at his changeup. The fastball had movement, and the curve was, as mentioned above, getting Braves out. It was unfortunate that Hoskins's error lead to Nola throwing more pitches and giving up the run.

What a great day for the Phils, should be exciting day tomorrow.

so frustrating that it will start during the PSU - Michigan game. The pitching matchup will favor the Braves. The Phils really seem to peaking with their bats, so who knows what will happen. I'm sure the fans will be off the charts at the start of the game. Hopefully, the Fightins give them reason to keep up the noise and celebrating.

Whenever a team unloads their collective bats in a single game, things generally don’t end well in the next. 🤷🏼‍♂️

That said…I actually think the Phillies win the whole enchilada. The Dodgers v. Padres series is setting up favorably for them.

Nola has reminded me a bit lately of being a right handed version of Hamels. Tremendous change and as they got a bit further in their careers they could reach back and find an extra couple of miles on the fastball. I forget the sequence but after the Braves scored, Nola K’d someone (I think it was Riley). He was probably at 80+ pitches then but threw 94 or 95 up in the zone to K whoever it was. That caught my interest.

Yes, that error I thought was critical in costing Nola the 7th. I was hoping that they maybe could have gone Hand and Bellatti and saved Alvarado, Seranthony, and Eflin that they had no problems going Sat and Sunday. At least they saved 2 of the 3.

Going to be an exciting finish.

Watching Dodgers-Padres on FS1 and they played "How Many More Times" by Led Zeppelin at the end of the 6th inning. Pretty cool and I wondered if there was any significance to the song and the game narrative?

Let's go Pads! How much would the MLB offices enjoy a Phils-Padres NLCS?

"Hit that Jawn!" I just LOVED that sign. Until tonight, I had never heard that "jawn" is "a Philly noun used to describe anything." LOL, Go Phils!

I say I agree with your point when SUB-500 teams make the playoffs in basketball and hockey...that is completely ridiculous. If you don't even win 1/2 of your games you shouldn't qualify no matter how many teams are supposed to get in. Other than that insult to our intelligence, imho the rest is fine (although it obviously benefits my team this year so tbh can't claim to be completely unbiased 🤷‍♂️ )

Should a team in a division that has the white Sox, tigers, royals, twins be allowed to make the playoffs? Or the cardinals who have the brewers, pirates, cubs, reds? It’s hard to compare records in baseball. You could argue the Phillies would win 95 games in those 2 divisions.

Bellatti gives up a HR to Olson in the top of the 4th, making it 4-2, Phillies. That's how it ends: 4-2, Phillies, heading to the bottom of the 4th.

Jay Wright is in the house (they just showed him on TV)

I would not have gotten this one if the question was who was the last Phillie in the 9 hole to hit a HR in a home playoff game:

Phils with 1st & 2nd, and 2 out, and Hoskins at bat, in the bottom for he 6th. Braves bring in Iglesias to face him. Hoskins dumps it into right field between the 2nd baseman and RFer, and plates Segura from 2nd. 5-2, Phils, with 1st & 3rd, and 2 out, with JT to the plate. Nice to get a run, as they've had a lot of chances that they didn't cash in. And the Braves can always threaten.

JT with a tapper to 3rd and beats it out, which plates Schwarber with another run. 6-2, Phils. 1st & 2nd with 2 outs, and Harper to the plate. And he cues it between 3rd and SS and plates Hoskins. 7-2, Phils!!!
