2023-24 Portal Thread

An interesting thing to me is that there are so many people with a positive view of the portal. Arguments about young men who were stuck getting new opportunities abound. But here's the deal, every spot that a transfer takes is taking away an opportunity of someone already committed to that program.

Further, hundreds of kids enter the portal and never return. They simply lose their scholarships and many of those probably never get their degrees. Continuing on the topic of degrees, how many of these serial portal mercenaries end up with a degree? They aren't all going pro and in fact that percentage is very low. So how is the system good for the players if likely thousands that would have earned degrees and not made the pros, now leave college football without a degree?

Probably more than you would expect.
Whether they are worth anything? Whether or not the kid even knows what he got a degree in? That's a whole 'nother story for this brave new world.

I think it would be interesting to see what happens to these kids in real life post college. the high % are NOT ever playing in the NFL. this is at the core of the argument for college football, as the majority of players are NOT going pro. the original intent was the playing a sport would get you a free education that took you to the future career (not NFL).

As some background, he told the PSU coaches he was coming to PSU while on his visit to State College 2 weeks ago. But he went through with his visit to UVA the following weekend.

Everyone who is the least bit surprised, raise your hand?

(Oh, by the way, weren't HFBCCJF and ADPK both being "shopped around" by agents multiple times during their careers? While they were "under contract" with other programs? Was that "madness"?)
Would not surprise me if the agent(s) from whom Kraft and Franklin received the emails weren't at all connected to the players they purported to represent. Profiteers just love voids.
