His defensive system is naturally going to make it harder to rebound (and yes, his VCU teams were also bad on the defensive glass his last 5 years).
Rhoades is a better coach than Shrews…give him a chance….he assembled the best he could in off season…he is recruiting and the boys are learning his style. Hard-nosed, pressure defense (which, yes can yield a lot of rebounds).I don’t purport to be a basketball expert, but I don’t recall hearing a lack of rebounding being attributed to a defensive style before, as though it’s intended. Now, I am not questioning you. Rather, I wonder what kind of coach Kraft hired to succeed a guy who took us to the tourney. Jesus.
He likes to play a smaller, quicker style trying to trap, pressure, switching, etc. It leads to forcing more turnovers, but also means guys are often scrambling and not in position to box out a guy.I don’t purport to be a basketball expert, but I don’t recall hearing a lack of rebounding being attributed to a defensive style before, as though it’s intended. What Erial said in his post plus while we are a more athletic team than last year’s, we don’t have quite the same mentality or toughness with a few of the guys. Johnson and Hicks don’t get in to mix it up on the glass like pickett or dread or Lundy.True. I just thought this thread needed some misplaced OUTRAGE. . Still, a systematic lack of rebounding, or something resembling that, concerns me.
Well Done had a nice Holiday Hard Cider last night as well. Was very well done.Just finished a Stella pint….tis the season!
Our biggest problem on defense is getting beat off the dribble which is leading to a lot of easy layups. He likes to play a smaller, quicker style trying to trap, pressure, switching, etc. It leads to forcing more turnovers, but also means guys are often scrambling and not in position to box out a guy.
You’ll often also see teams that play a lot of zone struggle with their defensive rebounding since it’s not as conducive to boxing out…but we play just a little of it, so that’s not what’s hurting us.
With how quick he is, it shocks me how easily Clary lets guys go around him. Hummel said it well last night that if the Le Moyne guards can get past us that easily, we're going to have issues containing some of the elite guards that we'll play. Our biggest problem on defense is getting beat off the dribble which is leading to a lot of easy layups.
me tooWell Done had a nice Holiday, was Hard in Cider last night as well. Was very well done.
Exactly and Clary is one of our quicker players. If he can’t contain the dribbler, how do we expect guys like O’Boyle to do it?With how quick he is, it shocks me how easily Clary lets guys go around him. The dude is short and slight. With how quick he is, it shocks me how easily Clary lets guys go around him. Hummel said it well last night that if the Le Moyne guards can get past us that easily, we're going to have issues containing some of the elite guards that we'll play.
Defense is a different animal. Length matters. If you have an athletic, long SF-type, sometimes it's better to put him on an elite guard if you aren't going to play zone. With how quick he is, it shocks me how easily Clary lets guys go around him. Yes, he’s hurt.Is kern hurt? not able to watch the game but just checked the box score and don’t see his name in it.
Good to see that both Aiyre and Brown are back to replace him…did they comment on what the injury is? I didn’t reup BTN+ for this one game, but seems like it was more of the same from us today forcing a lot of TOs, but sloppy on offense and gave up too many offensive rebounds.Yes, he’s hurt.
They didn’t say, just that he was hurt. And you’re spot on, they looked just like they did last game, but they forced a few more turnovers. Clary was outstanding and Puff played pretty well. We had 21 team fouls, so we were doing a lot of reaching. A lot of the offensive rebounds we gave up were balls that were tipped back out to the guards. We don’t block out at all. And BTN+ sucks, it’s like watching a high school game being broadcast on a local station.Good to see that both Aiyre and Brown are back to replace him…did they comment on what the injury is? Prior to the game the announcers were saying Rider was a very good rebounding team, so it was going to be tough for Penn State. Luckily Rider is a really bad shooting team.I didn't watch but I see that even Rider outrebounded PSU.
That's amazing because Rider missed 37 shots compared to 25 misses for PSU. That means PSU has 12 more opportunities to rebound missed shots but still lost the rebounding battle by 3.
We're talking about 3-10 Rider.Prior to the game the announcers were saying Rider was a very good rebounding team
No doubt we’re a bad rebounding team, but that doesn’t mean Rider isn’t a good rebounding team. They’re 3-10 because they can’t shoot for crap….if you can’t do the most important part of the game, you’re not going to win regardless of how well you do everything else. We're talking about 3-10 Rider.
It's not just Rider. PSU is dead last in the BiG in rebounding margin.
I’m not quite sure what sport we’re playing right now, but it’s not basketball. This game so far
