Novice here. Any major concern about PSU’s maximum potential points being low?

All in all a good 2nd round.
Swap SVN for Dean into the quarters, which I don’t hate right now at all.
I think we’re looking pretty solid for 8 AA and 6 into the semis (with Beau having a real shot to make it 7)
Facundo doesn’t matter for the team race, but bummed he didn’t show more.
Max I wasn’t expecting to get past Allred, but I like him getting back to top 6 I think.

Last match of the night involving a PSU wrestler

285 R2: #3 seed Greg Kirkliet vs. #14 seed AJ Nevills (S. Dakota St.) (I'll use AJ)

Per 1
Kerk has a leg, drives in to AJ and gets a TD and is getting swipes. He has a cradle, but they are on the edge, so he's hamstrung. 2+4 NF makes it 6-0. OOB with 1:56 left. AJ tries a roll and nearly gets caught, but he gets back to his base. Kerk pretty much cuts him, 6-1. Kerk bulling in and they are OOB with 1:15 left. Stall warning on AJ on that OOB. Kerk workin undercooks to a single and trips AJ down for the TD, 8-1. AJ is pretty flat, though Kerk isn't doing a lot. End. RT @ 1:44 for Kerk.

Per 2
AJ takes bottom. After a bit, Kerk basically cuts him, 8-2. Kerk pushed in and then go OOB and a stall call on AJ, 9-2. stoppage with 54 sec for interlocked hands. Kerk in a single and drives in for the TD, 11-9. Nearly got a tilt but AJ gets to his stomach. End. RT @ 2:55 for Kerk

Per 3
Kerk takes bottom. AJ gets high and Kerk with a quick reversal, 13-2. Kerk tries a 2-on-1 then a crossface, and the ref stops it at 54 sec left for a stalemate (not much was happening). RT is locked. Not a lot from either guy after the restart. Kerk must be looking for something he can work for a tilt, but AJ is not giving it to him. End. With 4:30 in RT, it's a 14-2 MAJor for Kerk

PSU advances 7 to the quarterfinals

@BobPSU92 -- the Maximum Potential Points is based on the assumption that everybody you have left in the tournament wins, and gets a pin, in all of their remaining matches. At this point in the tournament, it always favors (so to speak) those teams with several wrestlers that are in the consolations, as there are a lot more matches in consolations than if you are in the Championship bracket. The Maximum Potential Points (MPP) for non-PSU teams will drop off a good deal over the next day, as each match a non-PSU wrestler doesn't get a pin, or loses, will hurt their respective team's MPP.

Can someone please share the link to the Penn State wrestling site that lists the running current score and max points?

After quarters tomorrow, team race will widen significantly. Iowa has only one sure semifinalist in Lee.
Agree. Lee is a definite semi finalist. Woods should make it, but no way Murin beats Yanni and Brands shouldn’t beat Lewis, but Lewis can have gas tank issues and Brands won’t stop. Quarterfinals are right after weigh-ins and Lewis cuts a lot of weight.

PSU should have RBY, Van Ness, CS, AB and Kerk all make the semis. Bartlett and Haines have really tough matches, but think they can win as well. It would be insane and pretty much over if PSU sends 7 to the semis.

Never pay attention to Max Potential Points until at least after the quarters. Preferably not until after the semis.

It says every wrestler for that team pins every opponent thru the rest of the tournament. That's not happening for any one wrestler in the entire field -- let alone all of them on any team.

Notice at the bottom of the standings -- Duke has 0 points but has 27.5 max points. That's a clue about the validity of that stat at this stage of the tourney.

Penn State needs to do one thing, wrestle to seed. It will be favored to send 6 to the semis, that boys and girls is a lot of points. Not giving up on Beau and Max will add consi points, and PS has a pretty good record in the semis.

Not going to be a cake walk, just take care of business.

The Cass-Schultz HWT quarter should be interesting. Definitely not a gimme for Iowa, but winnable.

As with anyone, I'd prefer to use the PSWC. But when it gets slow like that, use the Trackwrestling site...much faster. It takes you to their lobby. Use the blue buttons to navigate. For example, Teams (see below).

Whole different mind set hear with Rooks. SVN will need his A+ match.
Not really. More of the same. Now if he were going against Murin I would agree. He's 0-3 vs Murin so doing the same thing and expecting a different result is madness.

Vs Rooks...10-3 SVN

Nice thing is Murin has Yianni in quarters. Golden opportunity for more PSU separation from Iowa with a SVN win and a Murin loss to Yianni.

And yet they kept having there usual wrestlers stall their butt off the entire 3rd period including real woods who should have actually lost.

Wrestling is tough, Warner bawled like a baby when he lost to Elam. Iowa wrestled hard.

For @gimb14 and @Tom McAndrew, what do you think happened with Facundo the last two weeks? Realize that the matchup against the first wrestler from Pitt was tough due to his ability to make Alex miss his shots.

But in the second match, we looked lost out there on the match. He kept missing any attempts at takedowns.

Thoughts? I am a Wrestling novice and appreciate the thoughts of you two gentlemen.

Penn State wrestling has seven competitors alive in the quarterfinals and leads the NCAA Championships after day one. What were our top four takeaways after a strong start for the Lions?

Story: https://bit.ly/3YShksk
One of my most memorable take-aways from this NCAA Tournament will be SVN's reaction to his major deficit (9-1) with the Maryland wrestler. It was as though he realized that his entire season was going to be decided by the outcome of that match. He actually looked angry! That aggression and pursuit was amazing. I will never look at SVN again without reliving that match and it's outcome!
