Levi at the end there showed exactly what Facundo hasn’t so far. If he’s deep on a leg it simply doesn’t matter what you want to do he’s going to get the TD.
That man is on a MISSION!!!
Agree. Alex need’s the mean streak when finishing.

In the defense of each, Haines has shown throughout the season an ability even when extended to gather in the opponent's legs and get the TD. I commented on it in a few of the thread duals. That is really tough to do when your opponent's weight is on you, but Haines has a knack for it.

That's not Facundo's style. He (Facundo) was in 5 times, most of them pretty deep, against Heller. Holden Heller was just really good at countering and at scrambling.

I agree with this. I think the issue is this happens to Facundo a lot. I'm getting to the point that it's an inability to finish because he gets deep plenty

Agree. Most times in college, that’s a stalemate situation at best. I commented to my son a few matches ago that Levi must be crazy strong to be able to suck that leg in and finish from that position.

Exactly. I don’t expect Facundo to finish in those positions because he has not shown he’s able to.
However, those are the shots he takes, and the positions he gets into, so his not being able to finish them is an issue!
If he had other offense that scored in high level matches, then it wouldn’t an issue at all.

I’m leaning towards Haines moving to 165 next year and challenging Facundo for the spot. Cael said early in the year he wasn’t sure Levi could hold 157 for very long.

This. It may come down to if Kasak/Gibson are ready or if there's a transfer. Cael can't be happy with the results.

174 R2: #1 seed Carter Starocci vs. #17 seed Donnell Washington (Indiana) (I'll use DW for him)

Here's hoping this match is a tad bit friendlier than their match this season in the dual.

Per 1
DW with a double, CStar sprawls, nothing. Stoppage for ?? (not sure). CStar in on a single at the edge but they go OOB with 1:20 left. CStar with a low head inside single, elevates, and trips him down for the TD, 2-0. They are on the edge. End. RT @ 18 sec for CStar

Per 2
CStar takes bottom. He's up quickly, and out in 6 sec, 3-0. CStar reaches, nothing. Reached again, nothing. Stall warning on DW. Stoppage for interlocking hands with @ 50 sec left (about). CStar shoots, has a single, and trips him but they go OOB before he has control. 5 sec left. End. RT @ 12 sec for CStar

Per 3
DW takes bottom. He stands, turns, but they go OOB with 1:39 left. DW tries to leg over, nothing, and RT goes over 1 min for CStar. DW works up, and back down. DW not doing much. RT is locked. DW now flattened with 25 sec left. CStar working a bar, but loses it. End. A rideout. With 2:12 in RT, it's a 4-0 DEC

Alex has a tough time scoring that 1st takedown. Just has difficulty finishing his shots. Like to see him establish more offense. Keep in mind he’s only a freshman at probably the toughest weight class this year.

Sigh. He didn’t even come close to threatening Ramirez. Leg up on the edge was the closest he came. Just not the guy.
It is what it is! Back to our regularly scheduled championship bracket wrestling.

165 consi: Alex Facundo, PSU vs. Julian Ramriez, Cornell

First period
Rameriez scores first with a quick takedown to lead 2-0. Facundo does get out to 2-1 about halfway through the first and then Facundo gets in on a single but Rameriez fends it off. They are now neutral in the center of the mat locked up. They both drop down and Ramirez gets positioning hikes Facundo's leg up Facundo is holding out so far but Ramirez walks him back to center as Facundo bounces on one leg and finally Ramirez trips him to 4-1. Facundo stands but can't get out before the horn. It's 4-1 Ramirez.

Second period
Facundo down. Facundo stands off the whistle and he's out to 4-2. Facundo dropped down to get a leg but couldn't and they remain neutral with collar ties before breaking apart. Period ends 4-2.

Third period
Ramirez takes bottom, Facundo cuts before the whistle, so it's 5-2 to start the third. Facundo drops in and gets a leg but they end up standing and he tries to finish this one but they go off the edge and Ramirez is called for stalling as they go off the edge. Back to center. FAcundo drops in but Ramirez circles around and gets the takedown and backpoints to go with it. Ramirez caught him and just stays on top to end it. It's a six point throw.

Ramierz d. Facundo, 12-2
