Phillies squish the fish 15-3. Bohm looking like he may have finally clicked too.
It’s a damn shame because Rhys and Bohm looked so similar this spring. Both were letting the ball get deep and they were hitting with authority to right center field. I said to so many people that more people should watch Bohm’s approach. Hoskins was hitting ropes and I couldn’t wait to see him start the season. Then the Tigers game happened and watching him carted off the field made me sick.

Still doesn’t help the pitching issues, but I was really anxious to see the depth of their lineup when Harper got back. The two guys I was concerned with - Stott and Marsh- are cooking early.

The Hoskins situation is likely to be a frustration all season. While he could go in long stretches of poor offense, when he was in the groove, he was an offensive machine. The Phils have a lot of excellent bats on this year's roster, but I'm not yet convinced they they have a suitable replacement for Hoskins's bat.

On the flip side, one of the great things about baseball is how unpredictable it is. Teams evolve over the course of the season, as unexpected players step up and shine, star players go into droughts, etc. Due to injuries, the Fightins have had a tough time than expected with their pitching. And yet, there is this:

On the money as usual. Hoskins has been a bit of a lightning rod since that ridiculous start he had. But there aren’t many players who can do what he does when he is going well. He can carry a team for a couple weeks, those guys don’t grow on trees.

What is with Nola and Wheeler when they get to the 5th inning? They totally lose it!

Wheeler was pretty good today. Nola started out yesterday better than his previous outing, but did have some trouble in the middle innings.

The bigger issue in the past 2 games was the bats, especially with RISP. I believe that with RISP, the Phihtins were 1-10 in Tuesday's game, and were 2-13 in today's game. They had more success against the returning NL Cy Young winner on Monday than they did in the next two games against the Fish.

They always play crappy vs the Marlins.

Wow Phillies looking like a team in disarray. Can’t hit, can’t pitch, can’t play defense. Reds pounding them again

I was at the game (it's not that long of a drive down from Columbus). Ugh. It was a really nice day for baseball (I was next to the Phillies bullpen in right). It's the RISP issue again--the Phils had a leadoff double and a walk in the first. And that's where it died. While I do think the Reds are a better team this year, they are not *that* much better. I also noted that upper 90s seems to be the new average standard for an MLB pitcher. The reds starter was regularly hitting 97-98. Of course, our last pitcher was throwing BP ay 58 mph. Not sure I've ever attended a game where a position player was used to pitch. The bullpen was cleaned out yesterday. I am not sure what the answer is. The injuries have hurt. But we're also not doing a great job in the farm system either. But this is a streaky team, and they rarely, for whatever reason, play well in Cincy.

...and that baserunning error. Oh my. You expect to see that in single A. Not in the bigs.

Agreed. But he is such an absolute butcher in the field. Hate to say it but I really won’t miss him.

Phils up 5-0 in 3rd, Wheeler gives up 6 hits on a row and now it’s 5-4. Nola and Wheeler have been awful to start off the season. Is it no adjustment to pitch clock?

All in all in spite of the schizophrenia 4-3 road trip is fine. I think Marsh might end up an Abreu level theft. Consistency will come. Still think the pitching staff will be a strength.

Now sweep the Rockies.

A wonderful performance tonight, a 5-0 stinker loss to the friggin Rockies who had lost 8 in a row. Thomson’s time
may soon be at an end. This team can’t hit for s***
