The women soccer's team has had amazing accomplishments this decade and had won the last 2 women's world cups-the US men have never won 1.

This is a bad comparison - there is a reason why there are separate teams for women and men. If you replaced the men's team with the women's team, would the women even score a goal? Would they manage not to give up more than 10 goals?

A few key injuries kind of forced the hand of some players hanging on and sticking around IMO. To be honest this was the best match they played in the tournament, but ran into a keeper who was standing on her head. I see people talking about one person who came in extra time as the problem here....and in fact didn't really play more than 20 minutes in each match. Williams had her best match and Rodman too, but they still need to finish. Hopefully Swanson returns to form and stays healthy as they have some talent, but Morgan who is America's sweetheart kind of gets the free pass. 4 goals in 4 matches....3 against the lowest seed.....so they need to inject something new from the top down.
America's sweetheart.

Here’s the thing, even with the injuries, Vlatko still had options other than an aging Rapinoe. Ashley Hatch would have provided a legit replacement for an underperforming Morgan.

No doubt, but if you’re heading to pk’s I get that sub. The other group stage matches no so much. He seemed clueless to adjust in the group stage matches. I know people dislike her but in that instance I get her going in. It’s been something like 6 years since she had missed a competitive PK.

The bottom line is people making this about her IMO just have an agenda. The US had ample chances in regulation to put the ball in the net and the Swedish keeper just had a great night. It sucks they choked but piling on her is dumb. Everyone who has played the game ever has missed pk’s. The women’s WC is much more competitive and it’s not like the US hasn’t lost to Sweden before. As much as people dump on her for other reasons she was a really good player in her prime. If Swanson was on the roster I think this team puts more goals in the net.

Some of the above posts reflect the sexism US women face in the quest for equal pay. Remember they have won 4 World cups-and the US men never have been even in contention. So if they want equal pay, they are seen as "privileged" and some are glad these "privileged women" lost.

The men and women have 2 different unions so their Collective Bargaining Agreements vary. They thing is the men’s WC generates so much more income. That is the real rub in all of this, but the group of women that fought for the future players to be taken care of is a long and distinguished list of great female players. The rest of the world isn’t jumping on to change that pay disparity anytime soon. I think even the women realize that. They did win some good battles for the women’s program. Yet that still upsets mostly older white men.

Somehow folks think it was just one player that a certain media group made into a villain for standing up vocally for what she believes in. The funny thing is it seems to trigger the same people over and over again. Wahhhh, they all didn’t sing in unison this time so a bunch of snowflakes that were going to boycott the NFL where players barely sing all got riled up again by the same media players. It’s amusing to watch folks get so manipulated and triggered over things they really don’t care about if they are being honest.

Professional sports are entertainment, and you are only worth what people are willing to pay to watch you. World-wide revenue for the WWC is much less than the WC, so the argument for equal pay is that, despite generating less revenue, they should be paid like they generate the same amount. I'm not much of a tennis fan, but my sense is that women's tennis generates as much or more interest and revenue than men's tennis. Assuming that's the case, the women absolutely deserve equal, if not higher, pay. When the WWC generates the same interest and revenue as the WC, then the women should absolutely get equal pay,

The last CBA put them on more equal footing in the US. It didn’t really get a negative reaction from the men’s side as most of the men’s team make way more for their club teams. In fact you can see Tim Ream’s reaction in the end of this article.

This is why female porn stars get paid so much. People want to see it.

I certainly wouldn’t blame the players for that though. If they don’t deserve it they shouldn’t get it. There’s nothing wrong with asking for a raise and better benefits.

Neither do I; nothing wrong with asking. FWIW, I was on board with their requests concerning travel and housing. There was no reason for them to be settling for anything less than first class and high quality accommodations.

You're right. But this is the absolute wrong place to try to point out sexism and misogynism, because it runs rampant here.

She’s a loudmouth and un-American. Nothing more than that.

Her 15 minutes are officially done.

Yeah protesting for what you believe in is totally unAmerican. Forced patriotism is the purest sign of freedumb around the world. Good thing you weren't coached to despise her, you picked it all up on your own free thinker. She just needs some therapy to fix her "gay issues" and soon she'll be back in the kitchen barefoot cooking for a man and singing the national anthem.

The US needs to handle it like Iran did last year for the mens team who didn't sing. Maybe threaten their lives of the US women as that worked for Iran and that is true patriotism.

”There are a lot of reasons the USWNT crashed out of the Women's World Cup in the round of 16 against Sweden. The team's best players were injured. The team was caught between two generations. The rest of the world has caught up.

Those things are all true. But Andonovski was also not the right choice for a job that is arguably the most challenging in women's soccer, and the warning signs of how this World Cup would go were evident after the 2021 Olympics. Had U.S. Soccer officials heeded those signs, the USWNT might very well still be in this World Cup, preparing for a quarterfinal.

Now, Andonovski ends his USWNT tenure having won just three of 10 games in major competitions -- two during the 2021 Olympics, and one in the 2023 World Cup. In those 10 games, the U.S. failed to score a goal in half of them.”

I’m sure you believe that too. 2 time WC winner and a gold medalist. Yeah, really awful career. I love that she spins folks like you up. Have a great life there Captain America. You should go to the old test board as there is a bunch of folks just like you there. Grrrrrrr, go get her as I ignore the trash now. #faketriots suck

My distaste for this team has nothing to do with the non singing ordeal, you are right, there are a lot that don't in all sports. My problem is that this team made it sound like they were being discriminated in pay, They were not. They agreed to a certain collective bargaining agreement to give them guaranteed money, which the men's team did not. They are the only one's to blame for that, but wanted everyone to feel sorry for them, when they are the one's to blame for it ! And they put the US Soccer Fed more in the hole than the Men, even though they have better results ! And , we won't even go into the kneeling part. You have a right to do it, but I have a right to not support you too for doing it.

Fair take, but that was settled 2 years ago and the men’s team seemed just fine with it. The men also make their bread in Europe so it’s not as big a deal to most of the men’s team. Don’t support them, but never watch any pro sport where the anthem is sung as not everyone sings. That was the fake outrage this time, but you won’t see Megyn Kelly crying when not all men aren’t singing the anthem. Hell not all of the US men sing either at every match. It’s the phony outrage whipped up by certain media types that is funny to me. I’ll root for them next WC too as I did all the previous ones. To each their own.

I’ve attended not US men’s and women’s team matches. Never once did I look to see who was singing like most people. These whipped up outrages are cute but I’m over them and I can see them for what they are.

Except she won 2 WC’s and was a huge piece of the last one. Don't let that anger you though....it's a good thing for young women and this countries effort to move the sport forward. I've seen the best outside of maybe Jordan all lose and go down before. I love watching people root against the USA in the name of patriotism....it's awesome to see people do it. It's like those that root for PSU but want to see a player or HC fail so that they are "right".

Scott Norwood sent Rapinoe flowers after the game. Monkey is finally off of his back.

So last night, I went back and re-watched the match before deleting it. Don't know why, but whatever. Overall, it was the best match that we played, but it was still below what our talent should produce. In general, it just seemed we looked a lot like we did during the Olympics and to be honest, I didn't have much confidence with this Vlatko team heading into it. Realistically, winning three in a row is a damn near impossible task as it essentially requires you to be the best team for nine years in row.

One thing that stuck out to me re-watching it, is just how gutsy of a decision it was to start Sonnett in the midfield. I about crapped my pants when I saw that on Sunday as Sonnett is a good defender but is well known for making big, reckless mistakes. However, I think it worked as she helped start some good runs. I think it was a great move. Wish the staff would have tried something bold in the second and third matches.

As for the whole criticism/countercriticism going on here, I think it is extremely simple-minded to label the criticism of the team yet another example of the misogynistic patriarchy. Complaining about athletes being overpaid, entitled, underperforming, loudmouths, etc. ae always common criticisms regardless of gender.

Lastly, our Constitution gives the players the right to voice their opinion openly. Our Constitution also gives people the right to openly criticize or root against any/all players.

I have no problem with athletes trying to get as much money as they can. My beef was the way they portrayed their case. They always negotiated their CBAs to have guaranteed money and other benefits that the men did not have in exchange for a lower salary. Also, US Soccer offered them the exact same deal that the Men had and the USWNT representation refused it. This always gets overlooked even though the 'pay discrimination' portion of the lawsuit was tossed by the judge.

They did have a legit argument on training facilities, travel, accommodations, etc. Makes me wonder if other national teams will start demanding comparable facilities, etc.

It really was their best match, but the keeper from Sweeden made 3-4 pretty clutch saves. Sweden is a good squad and has given the US losses and fits long before this. That is why you need to win the group and that was their downfall. They played so direct in the group stages and simply never adjusted when it wasn't clicking....so a new HC can hopefully help there.

What's that quote Patrick Roy had years ago? "I've got my 2 Stanley Cup rings plugging up my ears." Trade WC for SC and Rapinoe can have the same quote. Maybe she'll be wearing her gold medal when she says it too, just to spite you a little more.
