The Picks

Mizzou @ Gamecocks ✔️✔️✔️
Talent carries the day, but a lot of intrigue. How much better does Mizzou play with Dembele? Lineups and style of play for the Gamecocks

UGA escaped the cellar against UK. State is on a roll. And has a size and talent advantage.

Ark ✔️@ UF
You know this means UF Wins.🤣🤬🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Then we have three really interesting games

LSU✔️ @ Vandy
Vandy has lost 4 of their last 5. Still a good team, but the reality of conference play is smacking them around. LSU bit the bullet and moved Poa to PG. It worked against a feckless UF D. Now probable DPOY Jordan Cambridge will be matched against Poa. Poa gets exposed but it will take a mighty effort on the boards for Vandy to be competitive.

UT @ Bama✔️
Bama has won their last three, but it was against 2 middle of packs and a bottom feeder. UT a more talented team and improving. I should pick UT, but my gut says Bama. Of course I had spicy enchiladas last night, so who knows🤷‍♂️

A&M @ Ole Miss✔️
Since beating UT in their best win of the year, A&M has lost decisively to UF, USC and Miss St. They beat Mizzou on a buzzer beater. They the most disappointing team in the league. OM had 4 straight until a rude awakening at the CLA. It’s in Oxford and OM has been resilient all year.

For shirts and giggles

Iowa @ Penn St✔️
Upset special. Since Ashley Owusu has returned to Penn St they are 6-1. She is their leading scorer and a really tough matchup. This is definitely wishful thinking, but that’s what longshots and dreams are for.
Also noticed in the UF/LSU game that Mulkey started playing more of her bench. Amazing that it took her this long to realize that she needs contributions from the bench.

Well, Angel is sitting right now, is she not? That alone ramps up the need to find a bench.

I don't even see Frank on the bench. Whatever slim chance Mizzou had, just got slimmer

In a 38 point victory we were +35 in Sania Feagin's 18 minutes on the court. Mizzou played us almost even in the other 22 minutes. Remarkable.

In conference play, Feagin is shooting 71%. 71%! Her Player Efficiency Rating is 2nd only to Cardoso and her offensive rating is the highest on the team.

So, yeah, I thought she would play more last night. But, perhaps, Dawn wanted to limit her minutes since Feagin is not use to playing big minutes in case she has to play a lot Sunday. She is more likely to draw fouls than Watkins or Kitts, and with Bueckers and Edwards playing the 4 & 5, getting UCONN in foul trouble will be key.

Let's talk SC's Home Court Advantage and MOV.

For the Season, SC has played 11 home games. In those 11 games (all wins, obvs) the average MOV was 48 points. Subtracting out PC, Morgan St, Miss Valley,& S. Dakota St. to only include Maryland, Clemmers, and the 5 SEC games, the MOV becomes 38 points. In SEC play only (5 games), SC's home MOV is 31 points (thank you Kentucky). Still, not too shabby.

Up next UConn.

Has anyone heard about Feagin being injured last night. Former classmate of mine texted me that Feagin is injured and may not play vs. UConn.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I would be terribly surprised if Fulwiley does not play extended minutes against UConn’s 4 guard lineup. I don’t see any player on the Husky roster that could guard her effectively, she is likely going to have another big game in a big moment on National TV. Pao Pao and Tess don’t draw many fouls on opposing defenders, and SC will need Fulwiley’s skills to draw fouls from their thin lineup.

Edwards will likely have a good game with Cardoso out, she would have even with Kamilla in the game in my opinion. But she will have to be very careful playing defense in this game, she is more important to UConn’s chances than even Paige is in this matchup. SC has ten fouls to give between Watkins and Feagin.

I am curious how Dawn will choose to defend PB. Chloe gets the early nod just based off of starting lineups, but it’s not an ideal defensive assignment for Kitts, or perhaps for Paige either. But Hall is designed for that duty better and that is who I think SC plays on her the most. Which opens up the spot for Fulwiley to play even more minutes. SC has been surprisingly average or less at defending the 3 pt this season, someone has to play good 3 pt defense on Shade. I could see Fulwiley doing that. That would leave Raven on Muhl, and PaoPao on Arnold. We will see.

Tessa has been very effective lately. There was an interesting moment in the 2nd quarter when it appeared Watkins picked up her 2nd foul. Dawn told Tessa to enter the game and then the call was on Bree instead and she quickly waved Tessa back to the bench. Dawn was going to go with 4 guards and Chloe, if Watkins had been in 1st half foul trouble. She went to 4 guards against Ole Miss when Cardoso, Watkins and Feagin all had 2 fouls. It's something to look for if any of our bigs pick up 2 early fouls. Coach likes to have her lineup options available to her in the 2nd half.

Washington was down 7 to Stanford in the final minute and has come back to send the game into overtime. I'm gonna miss PAC-12 Friday basketball next season. All the games are on at the same time and it's easy to flip back and forth between them. Usually can find one quality game.
