Man, Noles is the epitome of consistency. Sure, HR here and there, but dudeman just deals. Dealing tonight. And give it up for Trea. 2 HR in a game three nights apart.

ALL OF THIS WITHOUT ARGUABLY THEEE OF YOUR TOP 5 HITTERS

Dang. Jesse Chavez. Age 40. Seems like the dude is going to pitch forever. I can remember when he came up with the Pirates in 2008. He's been the ultimate journeyman and still keeps earning that roster spot.

Alvarado seems like a roll of the dice sometimes. Fortunately it's the bottom third of the line up in the Braves' ninth.

Ozuna couldn’t hit anything off speed against Noles, so sure, bring him the heat…. That makes sense.

28 games over .500. That's impressive.

that's an understatement.

As of July 6th, here is how each team atop their respective division is doing:

NL
East
: Phillies, 58-30, 10 games over 2nd place Atlanta Braves
Central: Brewers, 52-37, 5 games over 2nd place St. Louis Cardinals
West: Dodgers, 54-35, 6.5 games over 2nd place San Diego Padres

AL
East
: Orioles, 56-32, 3 games over 2nd place NY Yankees
Central: Guardians, 54-32, 6 games over 2nd place Minnesota Twins
West: Mariners, 49-41, 2 games over 2nd place Houston Astros

Am I alone in thinking that I don't want Bohm participating in the HR Derby? He's been really good at taking what the pitcher is giving instead of trying to drive the ball out of the park and my fear is that he'll change his swing for the contest and it'll negatively impact what has made him so successful this year.

Mercado not ready for prime time, 3 homers and 5 runs in the second. Good grief!

I'm officially worried now. This sucks.

The games on Sat & Sun did suck. But it's far too soon to worry. Ranger has been phenomenal this year, but his last few starts he hasn't been as sharp, so he had some trouble on Saturday. Mercado was making his 2nd start in the bigs, and had trouble throwing strikes from the beginning. He pitched out of bases loaded in the 1st inning, then kept falling behind in the 2nd and gave up 3 HRs.

Schwarber, Harper, and JT have been out. While Marchan has does surprisingly well hitting in games where he's the catcher, and Casty has done better of late than he was the first 1.5 months, taking those 3 out of the lineup causes problems for the Fightins. Today's lineup was:

1. Bryson Stott
2. Trea Turner
3. Alec Bohm
4. Brandon Marsh
5. Nich Castellanos
6. Kody Clemens
7. Whit Merrifield
8. Garrett Stubbs
9. Johan Rojas

Turner has been hot of late, so the Braves basically had to worry about Turner and Bohm, then not throw hanging pitches to Casty or Marsh, and that was about it in terms of what they had to fear.

Schwarber will be back on Tuesday. Harper may join him, or may be a few days after that. JT is a little further away, but he's also getting close to returning.

Despite losing 2 of 3 to the Braves, the Phils still have an 8-game lead over the Braves. That's the largest lead of any team in any division. The only team that is close to having that type of lead is the Dodgers, who are 7.5 up on the Padres. The Dodgers are in Philadelphia for the next series, so it may remain a tad bumpy, but IMHO, it's not time to be worried.

yeah not too worried. you can't lose your # 1 and 9 WAR leaders and expect to keep pace. then you lose JT and opposing pitchers don't have to labor nearly as much to pitch smartly around three of your top 5 batters. easy pitching for the opposing pitchers means less run support, which changes how YOUR pitchers pitch. it's cumulative

bring the bats back, and things change significantly. Phils have a 5 run per game average so far this year, and have hit that 5 times in the last 11 games. clearly not up to offensive standards right now

Marchan should be doing the bulk of catching until Realmuto comes back.

Before the Braves series, was discussing with a family member that the key was just to not get swept head-to-head, which would have led to only a 6 game lead. Winning the first game of the series was huge, and helped to mitigate the consequences of whatever would occur throughout the rest of that particular series.

Dog days of summer. Its a long season. I am anticipating the inconsistency until they get back from the west coast roadtrip (Mariners, Dodgers, Diamonbacks) mid august we will see some more consistent, positive, performance thru the remainder of the season...hopefully...
