I don’t know if it’s a record, but I believe the Phils have won 8 consecutive Game 1’s. Let’s hope that continues today.
Zack Wheeler doing Zack Wheeler things. The offense needs to post some insurance. Squandering this outing would be a crime.
We've seen this too often this year. Wheeler pitches a gem (even better than could have been expected), and the Fightins have only scored 1 run heading into the bottom of the 7th. The Phils bats have to wake up if this is going to be an enjoyable Red October.
Hoffman is the reliever to start the top of the 8th. He allows a single, then a walk, and then a double, Game is tied 1-1, and the Mets have 2nd & 3rd with no outs. Topper is out to replace Hoffman. smh
On the walk, Hoffman had the guy 0-2 then couldn't find the plate for some reason. That stuff drives me nuts.

Hard to win a game when the offense only has two hits. What a wasted effort from Wheeler.
4 sure. All 3 guys that Hoffman faced he got ahead in the count.
To update, Strahm came in, the Fightins bring their infield in, and the Mets hit a single to take the lead, 2-1. The next batter hits a sac fly to deep center, plating the runner. So all 3 batters that Hoffman faced have scored. Currently 3-1, Mets, with a man on 1st and 1 out in the top of the 8th
Edit: The inning ended with the Mets plating 5 runs, to take the lead 5-1.

Epic bullpen choke job. I'd like to think the offense would get fired up and do something but I don't see it happening. The team hasn't had any killer instinct for a while now.
They’re the Braves from last season. Middleton pays too much for this result. They’ll get swept right out without even a whimper.
Wheeler aside, sad effort. The man deserved better.
Maybe the Clemens double will help generate some team energy for tomorrow. Trying to be optimistic.

The bullpen criticisms are justified, but this loss is on the offense. The Mets intended to use "pitcher by committee", which should have been a vulnerability against the Phillies ace, but unfortunately it actually worked. Not sure why, but it seems reasonable that it is more on the Phillies offense then on all of the Mets pitchers just coincidentally pitching the game of their lives...
