I saw Ono this past weekend. I am surprised if he weighs 100 pounds. He has a great smile and said he wants to live the rest of his life in State College!

Also saw Blaze, who looks about 12 years old, and Messenbrink who is so well spoken and humble.
Unfortunately I was told on here that more than 1 year in state college would be a waste of Ono’s time

Ono personifies the new NLWC member… they are coming from around the world and using the NCAA season as just training for the freestyle season. Some are just passing thru to train for a few weeks, months.

It’s so competitive now but the real elevation takes place in the room where you’ve got 20+ elite level wrestlers rolling around. That’s insane but the best recognize it. Spencer better be talking to Cael or even DT because it ain’t happening for him in Iowa City. Imagine Spencer training with Ono, Lilledahl, Blaze, Jordan C., Gilman, etc…

Brantt reiterated Ono's status in the lineup solely relates to whether they can get more years for him via appeal, he has not provided a timeline or likelihood however (likely by request of his sources)

He also said don't count out Lucas Cochran at 285, he has gotten HUGE.

I saw Ono this summer on the sidewalk out front of Rec. I weigh 135, and Ono looked huge to me. Perception is relative. @Psu-cpa: I bet you are a lot bigger than me if you think he looks 100 pounds. 😉

I might be a waste of his time but talk to anyone who leaves the military and then comes to college as a 23–25-year-old. Still young enough to make it happen with Coeds but old enough to have a different perspective.

We have plenty of “poster children” of redshirt years that worked, after which a wrestler came back better—e.g., Zain. Who are the poster children of redshirt years that failed?

For example, a year in which a redshirting kid was deprived of feeling like part of the team and lost his focus and love of the sport/team/school. I realize that the redshirt might not have been the sole or main cause, but still, if the kid quit the school or sport after a redshirt year, then in hindsight we’d be curious about how things would have gone without the redshirt.
what does this have to do what I said anyone can shirt if they want too, I was just making a statement now everyone that can start for 4 yrs can do their 4 yrs and be done if they like!

I don’t remember what you said. From my post that you are quoting it seems that I had some curiosity for data points that show that redshirts sometimes seem like a possible bad thing. I just generally like to have examples for everything. My question did not seem to be trying to make a point.

(I personally would not have wanted to stay a fifth year in college. I would choose four years over five years for myself.)

I was under the impression it would be best for PJ to go this year with Kasak shirting and take next year off preparing for the Olympics and getting his weight set for that run at gold. And get Cassar in that room feeding Mirasola his diet.
Not to mention more time for the concussion injury to heal.

If Kasak's concussion isn't healed, then WTF were Cael and Monthley doing last year, letting him wrestle with an unhealed head trauma injury?

Folks, please stop this narrative. Don't be like that Cornell poster on the old site, who kept claiming Grey let Shapiro wrestle with a concussion.

Shapiro had like 2-3 separate concussions last year and was in the hospital with a coma a month before NCAAs. BEG sports did a full episode on how bad the look was for Cornell letting him go when everyone could see he was concussed Far from some poster on a site getting spun up on this one.

Someone should have stopped him from doing this interview, in my opinion.

Agree. Plus, what do people think he has been doing in his free time away from the spotlight? Not wrestling? Of course he’s been wrestling.

Except that was irrelevant to the accusation: that Shapiro continued to wrestle multiple matches at CKLV after being concussed, and Grey did not withdraw him.

Shapiro did not compete at Dec 2024 CKLV. So this was about Dec 2023 CKLV, long before he was hospotalized.

Regardless: why do people keep saying Cael and Monthley are allowing Kasak to train and compete with a brain trauma injury that needs more time to heal? It's a thought-free accusation that, if true, would be grounds for firing with cause.

I dunno, without that interview we'd have no idea how widespread steroid use is in the factory.

Honestly, it came off as a kid that is emotionally and psychologically unstable. I think the AD/coaches would have served the kid better by him not doing interviews.

Any comparison to what happened with Shapiro and how Cornell dealt with that, and Kasak and PSU is ludicrous. End of story.

I didn't hear ever that Kasak had a concussion did he ever say that or anyone else
He injury defaulted to Maryland with a concussion, and then missed Ohio State and Illinois the following week, returned against American the week after that.

Enlarging the discussion to bring some closure, I am unaware of any PSU wrestler grappling while dealing with an injury that could result in a negative long term quality of life outcome. If Cael and company were aware, every protection would be afforded the athlete, not the least of which would be withdrawing the athlete from competing.

Thought he also got dinged in NCAAs vs. Blaze. He was not himself the second half of that match. Blaze is tough but Kasak should have beaten him. Missed being on the top step.

I watched the match. El_Jefe describes the event accurately as well as the aftermath of missing OSU and Illini. I read all of the follow-up available and learned that the concussion protocol was put in place. When Kasak next wrestled, he wore a special protective head gear. Hope this info helps!

OPC is the optimal performance calculator, it is where you have to enter weight certs in, and from there, they calculate minimum weights/descent plans

Kasak's head issues started against Iowa, he got a massive cut from an unintentional knee by Teemer. It got aggravated clearly against Michigan and Maryland.
