Long-range planning. Is that next week?

So 4a and 4b are already decided to go forward? No opportunity to discuss the merits of these expenditures, or the lack thereof, or did that happen at a prior meeting?

The annual budget has always been voted on in July. Any thoughts on why only a GSI and tuition rates are up for approval this year?

For the last reported year it lost nearly $900K. But its contribution to the fabric of PSU can't be measured in dollars and cents, or so I'm told on a regular basis.
Exactly! I'm just trying to wrap my head around why a field hockey field upgrade is such a priority right now.

If that's how you are going to assess PSU's sports program then do you prefer to eliminate all but the 3 sports that operate in the black?
Of course not, but "Penn State averages 427 fans per contest" in field hockey. Doesn't seem like the ROI is very good for that kind of money.

If you want greater accountability, remove funding of the money-losing sports from the Athletic Department and make it part of the overall general budget lf they make PSU a better, more attractive school to attend, people should have no problem paying for them.

Not for long I guess. 5 bucks x 200 fans brings in a cool $1000 a game
That will help balance these numbers:

"The project was put on pause for two years during COVID, and since that time the cost has escalated to $12.8 million, which is above the Bylaw threshold requiring Board of Trustee approval. Most of the funding for this project is coming from gifts of $7.75 million and $2.5 million in borrowing."

So then Athletics nets $x more and the “broader budget” then takes the $x from Athletics to pay for those sports?

Is this like when you’re in school with only two 10s in your pocket to last to the month’s end? Grandma then gives you a 20 with the stipulation that you not buy booze with it, so you put it in your pocket, head to the bottle shop and lay out your two 10s for some beer?

Who even said that?!?!
You asked the question how much they bring to the table. I was simply following up saying I don't think many if any at all bring money to any D1 school. Sorry for the complete confusion I may have caused you?!?! It wasn't a shot at you or saying they deserve it, just a data point.

I don’t get how it costs almost 13,000,000 for locker rooms for the teams and officials as well as to get booth and concessions.
$10 million in engineering fees and $3 million in actual construction costs. I'm going to hang up and listen to the heads exploding here on the Engineering/McAndrew board. 😉🤣

Kickbacks don't come cheap nowadays.
Yep my thought as well. I’m all for giving them high quality facilities but without seeing the entire plans what they plan on adding does not seem like it’s going to cost $13 million even in today’s inflated cost situation. I guess they’re lucky they have about 10 million of it donated

It happens now anyway though people don't pay attention.

At some point the chickens will come home to roost, though. Were things run along the line that I suggest, football (and basketball) would build up reserves that could be used to finance future capital expenditures. With those reserve non-existent, the University has to pony up. At that point, folks might realize that supposed "investments" in the football were never that, but simply a way to fund sports that not many people care about. One of those people won't be Brandon Short.

And don't forget about the new 1,200 bleacher seats for 427 fans that get in free.

So, they're going to print up tickets for a cost and hand them out to fans to get in free (whom are they handing them out to?). Pay someone to collect said tickets and sit in the million dollar ticketing booth.
