In that case it’ll take a mere 1,000 years to break even. Not for long I guess. 5 bucks x 200 fans brings in a cool $1000 a game

$10 million in engineering fees and $3 million in actual construction costs. In going to hang up and listen to the heads exploding here on the Engineering/McAndrew board.
Engineers gonna get paid.
I'm thinking CR66 (Zippy from the old board) styleI bet it has air conditioning.
This reminded me of some of the nonsense that our county makes us do when selling tickets for the football game. We have a ticket booth that’s about 15 feet in front of the only gate into the stadium. But instead of roping off an aisle way to walk through the gate once you have paid, the county makes each person get a ticket and then hand it to the person at the gate to walk in. So instead of having three people selling tickets at the ticket booth we also need to have at least one more person being paid to just collect the ticket that was given to them 15 feet earlier. I do realize we could do it our own way but the problem is when it’s a big game and there’s a few thousand people there get busy and you don’t notice someone from the county athletic department come by and then they reprimand you.So, they're going to print up tickets for a cost and hand them out to fans to get in free (whom are they handing them out to?). Pay someone to collect said tickets and sit in the million dollar ticketing booth.
At a previous school that was an assistant athletic director, we needed to build a new field house and ticket booth/press box at our stadium. I understand that what Penn State is building is going to be significantly nicer than what we built but what we had was a very nice facility and considering that it is only a ticket booth and public restrooms for the field hockey facility they wouldn’t be any bigger than what we had at our high school. And we were able to get our whole thing done 10 years ago for under 1 million so even if they went with things that were twice as big as what we did and then add in the increase in cost from 10 years ago plus other various amenities for the locker rooms there’s still nothing close to 13 million.I like the FH program and support it. However, without reading the plan, $13M seems to be at least $10M over what is reasonable
I laughed at first, but it's true. I work with marketing people in a fortune 500 company. They have to submit a budget every fiscal year and they tell me that if they don't go over budget, their monies will be cut the following year. Over budget means more monies allocated to them the following year. You need to spend money to spend money.
They have $7.75 donated and they are borrowing $2.5. My math isn't very good but I'll take a crack:Yep my thought as well. I’m all for giving them high quality facilities but without seeing the entire plans what they plan on adding does not seem like it’s going to cost $13 million even in today’s inflated cost situation. I guess they’re lucky they have about 10 million of it donated
It sounds to me like a Barb Doran and Sandy Barber legacy thingy.Exactly! I'm just trying to wrap my head around why a field hockey field upgrade is such a priority right now.

I doubt that ROI for most of the sports in the red is measured in attendance figures.Of course not, but "Penn State averages 427 fans per contest" in field hockey. Doesn't seem like the ROI is very good for that kind of money.
This is especially true with government agencies. Every department always spends every dollar out of fear that if they don't, their budget will be cut in future years.I laughed at first, but it's true. Doubt that "ROI" for these sports is measured by any metric. That would require critical thinking by Athletic Department administration and their enablers on the BoT.I doubt that ROI for most of the sports in the red is measured in attendance figures.

They'd have to see it before they could laugh at it.Penn State laughs at critical thinking.
Ghost:Barry, I asked a serious question much earlier in the thread before all the snarky comments started - why isn’t the board scheduled to approve the 2022-23 university budget on Friday as has been done for the last 40+ years? Does it have anything to do with the recent departure of the Budget Officer and/or the Provost?
Yes.Barry, @PSUFTG , have they assigned you to any committee's yet?

An auspicious beginning to Dr. Bendapudi's presidency.Every member of the PSU BOT Finance Committee - except for Anthony Lubrano - voted to approve of the tuition increase (5% in state, 6% out of state). The committee includes Alumni-Elected trustees Brandon Short, along w Lubrano.

Of course Lupert & Dumbly may add a twist of lemon and sugar in their selection of an A/E firm and construction company.
Yes.
Academic Affairs, Research and Student Life (that is ONE committee, not three)
Can you please provide your website again?BOT-Agenda-2022-July-FINAL.pdf (psu.edu)
I will, of course, provide my comments/review - including my votes and rationales for each - at my regular website locations after the meetings.

And counting all that free money from his "consulting contract"Somewhere, barren is smiling.
Don't sell Peetz short. In 2012 she gave the impression she felt football should only exist to ensure the survival of field hockey. It sounds to me like a Barb Doran and Sandy Barber legacy thingy.
