Any regrets on Beamer instead of Chadwell?

It's been awhile but I was thinking Riley came in for two interviews but our glorious AD passed on him because of a lack of HCing experience. I think Mack publicy expressed interest in the job. As for documentation, where is yours that my post was incorrect? A fan doesn't need to be a "mind reader" to see that Ray has hoof and mouth disease when it comes to hiring coaches.
His MBB hire may turn out ok but he should and probably could have gotten Miller if he really wanted him. I'm thinking his talking to Miller was just for show and to keep even more fans from demanding he be fired and he deliberately inserted a clause to PO Miller. If USC had a grade A AD, there is no way Xavier would have gotten Miller.

Looking at the disaster Riley left behind at OU, I'm ok with passing on him.

Nope. Tanner said before the search began that he was looking for someone with HC experience. Riley came for an interview and per Riley the interview went very well. After he arrived back in Norman, he and Stoops had discussions. Shortly thereafter Riley withdrew his name. Tanner didn't pass over him....he never had the opportunity to offer him. I can't blame Riley nor Tanner. The decision was fait accompli once Stoops had his meeting with Riley.

We have morphed into a "hide behind the keyboard, no accountability, I'm an expert, chest pumping" society ... I have no issues with Beamer being hired ... he works hard to win and I am thankful he is our HC ... USC had issues when SOS was hired and it took him several years to get USC to a national power ... suspect it will be the same for Beamer (and I hope he can do so) ... he brings integrity to the position and his recruiting has been a wonderful surprise ... as many have stated here, I do believe we need an OC ... that is a "Captain Obvious" statement for sure ... Life is good - Peace!

Watching this game is painful. We are so bad. 90 yards at half. Im sorry but had we hired Jamey Chadwell, his offense would not be at 90 yards right now. And how can we have 8 or even 9 in the box and they literally run it right down our throats for 7-10 yards at a time. And the missed assignments by the OL, UK blitzes just come in untouched.

Just sad man. We look like a Sun Belt team.
umm, mike leaches air raid offense sat at 94yrds at halftime. their offense scored 13 points against uk. ole miss scored less than us also. this didnt age well, did it?

It's not going to change until our fan base *STOPS* supporting mediocrity. Those of us in the non-sunshine pumper camp knows exactly what needs to be done. It starts with the firing of Ray Tanner. Then it progresses into cleaning house on the coaching staff. Every last coach, even the towel boys - need to hit the road. We need a competent AD who can make at least a decent hire.

But, we're never going to be rid of the 50% who say "He just needs more time." - Every single decade after decade. It's absurd. It's a mindset and our fanbase is simply too passive for anything to change.
I graduated USC in 69. Check the records. We have been where we are, except for brief periods in perpetuity. Won our ONLY championship (East Division in 94 excepted if you consider that one) that year. Finally won more than seven games in 1980 or so I think. Point I’m making is our “fan base” keeps evolving. Us old ones die and we graduate a few thousand every year. Been a long, not so successful history and my pessimistic prediction is that will likely continue no matter what we “passive” fans do. We average history losing. two of three to UGA and Clemson. Look it up. Good luck on doing “your part”. I will do “my part” too…support financially, buy tickets, and go to games. I don’t know what else “I” could do.

I do not regret passing on Chadwell as HC, but I'd take a look at him as OC. I know the pro-Chadwell folks lean on the "he's won everywhere he's been" but when that "everywhere" is North Greenville, Delta State, Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina, that's not super impressive. I'm not saying he can't be or won't be a good good P5 coach one day, I'm not just not willing for us to be the ones to roll the dice. I think it should be noted, there were a BUNCH of jobs open the past couple cycles and Chadwell wasn't seriously linked to any of them. I don't think his name even came up at all this past cycle. It seems there's something that's suppressing interest in him.

Beamer could end up a pretty good hire.

The Muschamp hire is still what perplexes me. Not just the decision to pick him. But all the raises, bonuses and the botched contract stuff that happened. What was Tanner thinking? He probably wasn’t.

Ellliott?!? Granted Muschamp was a poor choice....got turned down by everyone better....but definitely don't see Elliott as an improvement.
Why not Elliott? We already knew Muschamp couldn’t do the job. He couldn’t win at Florida. So there was some . . . ANY . . . possibility that he was going to win here?! I’d have rather rolled the dice on Elliott. At least with him we had a 50% chance of winning.

Hopefully the A&M win will silence the Chadwell talk forever.

Its a great win! But remember Muschamp won 9 games in year 2 w that Michigan bowl win. 2 years after we went 3-9 and lost to The Citadel. So this is a great win, and hopefully we finish at leasrlt 7-5 at worst. But we’ll need some 10+ win seasons to say the hire was a clear home run

But last night was a huge step in the right direction!

Two years after we beat Michigan we went 4-8 and didn’t play The Citadel.

Chadwell might have been a good hire - he also might not have been a good hire. Power 5 football history is littered with guys who did well at a lower level, but then failed in the big leagues.

Chadwell will get his shot somewhere, but I’ll be interested in seeing what he does without his star QB.
He’s had plenty of success without his current QB

This is not directed right at you, but more for the board. Right now there may be about 3 "home run" hires. Though Urban Meyer being the only one I can think of right now. (Holtz and Spurrier fit the bill in the past.) But seriously, who can you guarantee will win in Cola right in this moment?

Chadwell could have worked at USC, or not. The crazy thing is that unless it's an actual "home run," everything is a toss up. So much depends on time and place too. Chadwell might bomb at USC right now, but if he was hired later, would win a decade from now. If hiring head coaches was easy, 30-40% of teams wouldn't be trying to hire them every year. Beamer is showing nothing but promise right now.

Yep. Ask Nebraska. Or VaTech. Or Florida. Or Tennessee. Etc. A lot of programs a lot more established than ours have had problems with coaching hires over the years. The vast majority of times it’s just a crapshoot.

I stood by this last week, and still do now that Missouri is absolutely embarrassing us. Chadwells offense is simple and has been very effective everywhere hes coached. At WORST his offense would be functional. Even if he was our OC, fire Satterfield.

If today is an L, we probably go 6-6, 7-6 at best w a bowl win. Which means after 2 years, this staff is behind Muschamps after 2 years.

Only regret is not firing Satterfield last year. That’s it.

He wont be fired at all.
He makes Kurt Roper look good in hindsight
You’re delusional. Maybe he won’t be fired, but he is the worst OC I’ve seen. Worse than Roper, McClendon… Satterfield is the worst OC we’ve ever had. And that’s a flat out fact.

Oh I agree. But he wont be fired. Ray Tanner will see to it
