What exactly is people’s issue with Joyner? Honest question. I’ve never understood the hate.

He did help cause it as a member of the 11.9/11 BOT home-grown terrorists…
So, you are angry that Paterno was fired for the scandal and somehow Joyner was personally responsible? Did he specifically say or do something publicly to garner the hate?

I don’t understand the whole paterno fired thing. I know the media loves to run with that but paterno did resign before anyone said he is no longer the psu coach.

He said he'd resign after the season and put out a statement that could be interpreted as challenging the BOT, although I don't think that's what he meant. The BOT had a nationally televised press conference stating he was no longer the coach effective immediately. How else could the public and media interpret it?

We accept paternos resignation and effectively immediately he is no longer the coach.! That’s it. Only psu would let the media dictate what was done. When someone resigns that is it. They have resigned based on their notice. The employer can allow u til that date or immediately!

The BOT made the announcement and it was broadcast live, it had nothing to do with the media dictating anything. And Paterno's self proclaimed resignation wasn't effective immediately either, so the BOT fired him. He was still the active football coach at the time of the BOT's announcement.

That is not how it works lol. If someone gives notice unless counter offered to stay that notice is what counts. Paterno was dying so he really didn’t care what they said.

The “scandal” you referenced was created by a group of the BOT, who also served on the second mile board…they and their cronies did and have benefited from billions in psu construction projects. Take 100’s of pages to describe to whole sordid affair…add in the Corbett/Spanier fiasco. The BOT collectively pointing their finger at Paterno, took away the investigation of The Second Mile (and themselves). Still amazing that folks settle for the false narrative and accept that it was perfectly fine that The Second Mile was never investigated even though alleged victims were from The Second Mile.

Correct. Settlements that indemnified TSM and its officers and directors.....says everything one needs to know.

Key BOT members knew months before the season that it was Joe's last.

So, your saying the whole Sandusky scandal was made up? Are you insinuating that Joyner was behind the entire “made up” story?

WTF with the direction this thread has taken?

As to whether Joe was fired or not, they got him on the phone that night and said “You are terminated.” Fired, end of story (sadly.)

But why? What exactly did he, individually, do?
He was Ira's waterboy. He had it in for Joe because he wasn't chosen team doctor.....and who knows what else. Generally speaking....it's a conflict of interest to be on the BOT and then be appointed to an administrative position in that university. Judas was otherwise unemployed. No backround in athletic administration and his cronies on the BOT planted him so that the athletic dept employees would be fearful and compliant during the Freeh Inquisition. He's a creep.

"Joyner is shone in an ill light throughout the book (Fourth and Long, John U. Bacon). None more so than in a scene related by Mauti from July 2012 and a return flight on PSU's private plane from the Big Ten preseason media confab in Chicago. Here is how Bacon recounts the encounter through Mauti's eyes:

Mentally and spiritually exhausted not just from being peppered with hours of questions about a pedophile he never knew and withering NCAA sanctions for which he was not responsible but also a frantic attempt he and the core seniors were making to keep teammates from defecting, Mauti sprawled in a backseat of the plane as it readied for takeoff. There he said he found a small cooler. Opening it, he discovered a couple of beers.

Not bashful and very ready for a cold one, Mauti cracked open a can and took a swig. As he tells Bacon, Joyner turned and gave him a dirty look. Mauti already held Joyner in disdain for what he felt was the AD's lack of support for the players both in Chicago and dating back to a confrontation at a team meeting about whether to play in the TicketCity Bowl the previous December. He merely stared back at Joyner in defiance until the AD finally turned around."
