Looking at that bracket, if you are seeds #5-#12, you have to play four games to reach the championship, that’s almost half a season.

Indiana if they lose to Ohio State can win a game and will probably lose in the next round, finishing 12-2. if they can somehow beat Ohio State they would get one of the four top seeds and a first round bye. I’m rooting for Cig

Someone needs to explain Texas and Penn State at #3 and #4. Zero quality wins combined between those 2 teams.
BYU or Colorado will get in there, along with probably Miami although I don’t think they are one of the 12 best teams. I think A&M has a good shot of beating UT and Georgia should beat Tennessee.

Penn State is overrated. Indiana is interesting, they could definitely beat some teams in the playoffs if they don’t draw Alabama, Georgia or Texas in round one.

Bottom line is that its very difficult to see a path for 4 deserving teams from the B1G. It’s a tee total trash league outside of the Top 4 teams, and IU and Penn State don’t have much of a path to prove themselves. If IU loses to Ohio State, they have no chance at a quality win in the regular season. PSU already has no chance of one. Oregon is in, as is the Ohio State / IU winner. That’s 2 for sure. I think they could get a 3rd, between whoever is deemed better between Penn State and the IU / Ohio State loser. But getting all 4 of those teams seems a little nuts.

Big will get four teams, every single bracket has them in there. PSU and IU both finish 11-1. 4 out of the top 5 AP teams are Big teams.

SEC should get 5, if A&M beats Texas and finishes first in the SEC I don’t see how you leave them out. if Ga beats Tenn I dont see how you leave Tenn out. if Tenn beats Ga, Ga may get screwed. somebody is going to get screwed.

Still a lot of football to shake things up........However, based on that AP poll .........don't assume a "deserving resume" or even a top 12 ranking gets you in the playoffs.

if it ended today...using that AP poll and current conference standings............this is how crazy the conference champion auto bids determine seeding.......

12 aTm (aTm and TN are 5-1 now, aTm wins tiebreaker as aTM beat Ark and TN lost to Ark)(Tx is 4-1) 1 Oregon
5 OhSt

10 Notre Dame 2 BYU
7 Penn St

11 Bama 3. Boise St
6 Texas

9 Tennessee 4 SMU
8 Indiana

Old Mrs, UGA and Miami screwed.............hahahahaha

Will they keep the losers of the conference games in?
I think the B1G will get their championship loser in because it will be either Oregon, OhSt or Indiana. Oregon and Indiana with one loss and OHst with two losses is getting in. So, the B1G will have 4 bids. (Penn St)

The water is extremely muddy for the SEC. It just depends on if the SECCG loss gives a team a 2nd or 3rd loss. If it is the 2nd loss for TN or Tx, yes. If it is a third loss for aTm or Bama......aTM no, Bama maybe.

Also, remember, B12, ACC and another conference will take 3 bids. The B1G will get 4 bids. That leaves the SEC champ plus 4 at larger bids. I just don't see the final rankings including 4 more SEC teams in the top12. Especially if BYU gets their first loss in a championship game. EVEN though, a two loss SEC team is probably better than a one loss BYU.

Still think it ends up being:

4 SEC teams
4 Big 10 teams
4 other (Notre Dame + three conference champs)

Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State seem to be pretty safe barring an upset loss or two down the stretch. Starting to lean toward Indiana would get in at 11-1.

The SEC is tough to sort out right now with so many games to play but I do think getting more than 4 in could be tough.

None of this is accounting for a stolen bid situation in the Big 12 either. If BYU were to go 12-0 but then lose in the conference title game, I think that becomes a two bid league.

Sec 4 for sure
big 10 3 for sure

1 big 12, 1 acc, 1 g5 for sure

notre dame most likely

decision is going to come down to a 5th sec team with 2 losses or taking The 4th big 10 team with a lackluster schedule and how you separate 2 loss tenn, Alabam, Georgia, and ole Miss.… would honeslty Think Georgia is the team left out on paper but rep might get them in over ole miss.

11-1 in a power 4 conference is a top 12 team period.
We have a power 2 conference, not sure you can count ACC anymore and certainly not "big" 12

2 loss SEC team, with losses on the road to a top 15 team matters. Not so much if you lose at home to an unranked team, that pretty much puts you out of the picture.

BTw, I predict TN beats UGA. aTm beats Tx.

That will leave 6 SEC teams tied at 2nd place with 2 SEC losses. I believe you will have to go all the way down to opponents winning % to break the tie. WHich I believe Bama wins and therefore be the 2nd place team in the SECCG. Which Bama probably doesn't want.

do not underestimate the desire to have all SEC teams with 2 losses, It will end up being a flex on the other weaker conferences that have 1-2 losses, watch and see.

UGA over TN and TX over aTm

That will be an easy decision for the committee. They'll take the 4th Big 10 team. May or may not be the right decision, but it will be an easy one for them to make. Right now, SEC teams in are TX, TN, Bama and Mississippi. GA will move back in with a win over TN. And A&M has a chance to with a win over TX. Missouri and South Carolina are long shots at best.

Of course the Big will get four teams. 4 out of the top 5 teams are Big teams. if Aggie beats UT then SEC really has no top five team.

Not sure it will be An easy one. Ohio state or Indiana is guaranteed another loss. Plus there is a loss coming in the champ game.

UGA beats Tenn, you have to get a 5th team in.. or either alabama, Georgia, ole Miss, or Tennessee have to be left out. Debating between 1 of those and anyone else won’t be easy… and you don’t have to look past last season to know the SEC usually wins the tie-breakers

indiana is a great story but they’ve yet to play one single ranked team. They get drilled by Ohio state. Its not going to be an easy decision to pick them over any of those 2 loss sec teams

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't think the committee will care. They won't want 5 SEC teams, so they'll take 4 Big 10 teams if they can. End of story. I think chances of SEC getting 5 ended when Indiana beat Michigan.

Well see. I think it all plays out on the field wheres the chaos all plays itself out. One more upset in the sec or Georgia losing this weekend and it paints a much clearer picture

however I very much disagree with they don’t want 5 sec teams in. We heard they don’t want an all sec champ game it happened. They don’t want 2 sec teams in the playoffs it happened. They wont tske a 1 loss sec champ over an undefeated champion, it happened. The playoff committee has constantly made decisions that have benefitted the sec. If it happens this year or not is yet to be known… but I don’t think they are plotting ways to keep sec teams out, sec teams getting in have and will continue to be good business.

Getting to the conference title game has never been more of a punishment than it is now. Imagine having to play 17 games to win the title. That's what a conference title game loser who doesn't get a 1st round bye faces. That's closer to 2 seasons than one.

They will soon be eliminated. Every 2 loss sec team is hoping not to win the tie-breaker to go to Atlanta. Same with Ohio state. Their champ game could give them 2 losses which will likely have them going on the road in round 1 of the playoffs… where without the game they’d be at home

once conference realize the games do more harm than good, not to mention now it’s impossible to evn know who could win the tie-breakers…..changes will be made... expecting it soon.

All post conference tourneys/games in BB and FB were just about raising revenue and never about the good of the game. They should be eliminated

What the conferences realize is these games make a boatload of money and unlike a bowl or playoff game, ALL of it goes to the conference. Championship games aren't going anywhere.

We disagree on this.

getting 5 teams into the playoffs, getting 2 teams in the natty, getting 3 final four teams…. All makes more money, gives more lecerage, and more value to the brand…than 1 conference championship game.…. Smart people see the long game. The sec always has. Changes will be made soon.

Its unknown how far IU drops with a loss to Ohio State. They are already only at #8, behind 1-loss Penn State in the CFP rankings (for no real reason, IMO). They drop the game to OSU, they are surely slipping behind a 1-loss ND, and undefeated BYU. Suddenly, you’ve got them right next to 2-loss Bama for the final 2 spots in the Top 11, and Bama just got an impressive win on the road over a Top 15 team so they are probably moving up. I think that Bama jumps them too. 2-loss Ole Miss with the convincing UGA win against 1-loss IU with no quality wins? I know who I’d take.

My argument in IU’s favor is that Penn State is no more deserving, but is solidly ahead based on brand recognition only. They don’t have any good wins either. But be honest with yourself - if its Bama, Penn State, IU, UGA, Ole Miss, ND, Tennessee, and one of the 2 Texas teams all vying for 7 at large spots, which one do you think is going to get screwed?

IU really needs to win that Ohio State game. It’s very likely a playoff game for them.

Getting rid of the championship game won't do anything on any of those fronts. Both teams are already getting in the playoff with or without the championship game. They'll have just as much chance of an all-SEC final or 3 SEC final four with a championship game as they will without one.

Agree. Indiana hasn’t even played a ranked team let alone beat one. The initial rankings show they are far from safe. a blowout loss against Ohio state and I think they fall behind 2 loss sec teams… or at the very least it’s strongly debated

Disagree. Big time. First you risk losing a home game by falling in the rankings. This will be almost guaranteed this season. Which again hurts chances…… and

with the standings being so unbalanced it’s not a given the team that wins a multi-way tie is guaranteed a spot in.

again very possible you could end up this season with
7-1 Texas
6-2, Alabama, UGA, Tenn, ole miss

texas beats tenn who had won a crazy 4 way tie-breaker, even though they are the lowested ranked of the 2 loss teams…tenn is now a 3 loss team and likely out. Where as game was never played, they stay in.

again it’s the long game. once beyong obvious the games hurt more than help.. they’ll make the easy move to give up that pay check… to give all their teams the best chances to make and go deep into the college playoffs and continue to be the king of college football. The check cashed in atlanta is Pennies on the dollar… smart business people understand this.. and the sec has always been well ahead of the curve when making such moves
