Best slice of pizza I ever had was Irene’s in Spring Lake Heights, NJ. Somehow, their pies weren’t nearly as good. For a pie I’d have to go with Carmen’s Pizza, which is part of Pete and Elsa’s bar in, I believe, Neptune, NJ. Paper thin deliciousness.
Locally, it’s Goodfellas in Lexington, KY. Going there tonight for dinner, in fact.

Sorrento's Pizzeria in the Bronx

There are others in NY. My wife is from NY and we currently live in MD. Both our kids are pizza snobs because they can never find anything as good as what we eat when we visit NY.

My wife loves Maronis. I like Acaro's w/ sausage on Taylor hill. The Roosevelt in Dunmore is great square dive bar pizza. There's a ton of Old Forge style that are very good in NEPA.
Absolutely. We are planning to see my brother's family this coming Sunday in Dunmore at the Honky Tonk. It's OF Pizza, but the sauce is a bit sweet. I'll run the Roosevelt by my brother. Thanks for the tip.

I actually work outside Old Forge and the pizza may have taken a step back overall. Our favorite right now is Colarusso's in Avoca. If we're doing toppings, then its the Red with Hot Seeds and Anchovies from Cafe Rinaldi in OF. But in contrast, the dining has improved at Anthony's, Cusumano's and Cafe Rinaldi. We're more likely to go for dinner than pizza in OF.
Also of note, Arcaro & Genell is only doing take away for now. Ang may not reopen the dining room. He's also had some personal family tragedy.

You're coming to Tampa right? Then try some Jets deep dish. Like pizza hut pan pizza back in the 80s.
We're not going to Tampa, but I was never a fan of Pizza Hut. I was always amazed that my parents loved Pizza Hut when they had so many great options in NEPA. One of their other favorites was Victory Pig. We also loved Maroni's - a style unto itself.

Shrimp pizza with flavorful wild shrimp and garlic. It was located at a shopping center in Venice FL. Wish I could remember the name.

Ok so I'm totally clueless. News at 11. Maybe we'll see you for a bowl game sometime.

For the rest of the board, yes Pizza Hut is corporate swill, but their pan pizza had something going for it back in the day. Now it's horrible chemical crap. My boys Jets make it like the 80s. That was my point. For those who enjoy maximum heartburn and indigestion with their pies.

My in-laws live in town. All of Your comments are spot on, including about Angelo.

Fortunato’s - the pizza my grandfather used to make. Still the best pizza I have had til this day. He was going to open a pizza restaurant in Youngstown, Ohio in the 1940’s but was talked out of it because pizza was not a thing back then. I believe he would have been quite successful though. My second favorite is Brier Hill pizza from Youngstown and in third is Pitz from Senape’s or Longo’s in Hazleton.

We would love to go but we already have tickets to the Fiesta and Cactus. We were hoping for Vegas Bowl for PSU, but ASU will be there and that's our younger daughter's school - so we'll smash that in between the Cactus and Fiesta. Three bowls in five days! Woohoo! Let's hope COVID doesn't mess with it. 🤞

I've also become a fan of Neapolitan and Roman-style pizza. In Phoenix, Pizzeria Bianco gets most of the love, but there are several that are as good or better. Cibo, La Piazza al Forno, Il Bosco, Forno 301, and Pomo are all solid Neapolitan options. Roman-style is limited with La Piazza the only game in town.

Two Boots in Manhattan. The idea comes from combining the geographic boot of Italy with the boot of Louisiana.

Essentially, it's amazing NYC style pizza mixed with Cajun flavoring.

One of my favorite pies was at the Chicago Uno Pizzeria chain with blue cheese and andouille sausage. That place was fun.

Agree. Ghigarelli's was the best for us too. Colarusso's double-crust white with broccoli is still a favorite. Cosmo's on Oak was delivering some killer pan-fried Sicilian. Best I ever had.
Cosmo’s is temporarily closed since the end of October as Cosmo had some recent surgery and is recovering. Hope he reopens as it was the closest to Ghigarelli’s I’ve had.

Yea. Bummer. Full disclosure…I have a connection to Cosmo. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that his pizza was literally the best Pan Fried I ever had. And the combinations were incredible. Hope he opens back up soon.

The next time you are in Newark, give Dominos a try. You won't regret it.
I know it is fun to joke about, but they don't suffer the same inconsistencies as the local shop. Local sometimes there is hardly any sauce or toppings sometimes there is a lot. Some times it is burnt and sometimes almost raw.

Corporate isn't great but it is reliable.

It usually gets back to home town. Where I grew up still like the old Detorres' in Monongahela, PA. Haven't had it in years but still crave it.

DelGrosso's Amusement Park (in Tipton, PA, just south of State College in the Tyrone area) has amazing pizza. Of course they use the best DelGrosso sauce and freshest ingredients. We travel to the park even during the winter months just for the pizza, which they still sell when the park is closed.

Try Sparetime Pizza at the bowling alley in Dallas, PA. My favorite by far. Better than Pizza Perfect. Best deal is TCRiley's, $16 for 16 cuts on Thursdays.
Will do when we get up that way again. I just moved my brother in law out of Dallas in October. They got Sabatini's to feed the movers(me). 🤮 My wife is up that way often though when the weather permits outdoor sports.😉

I will meet you for a beer!
Funny thing is I drove past TC Rileys about 5 times on a Thursday night during the move and the place was hopping then was empty on my last load. Is that a Steelers bar?

Pretty decent sports bar, couple nites a week it is a biker bar...but the food is good. Do take-out once a month.

My sister lived in Phoenix for 13 years and we went to a brewery pizza joint that was fantastic in the early 2000's. She said she saw Chipper Jones there a couple of times. I asked if she remembers the name but she had no recollection. I think she burned too many brain cells while living out there. 😁

I just drove past and lights were off. Does he still own the pool hall that used to be Top Dog?

Benny Tudino’s in Hoboken makes a heckuva pizza pie. Also, gone but not forgotten: Mr. Pizza in Loyalsock, PA (cc: @MtNittany).

I've had SO MANY pizzas in my lifetime, I'm having a hard time picking one that's heads and tails above the others.

Sure, I've had good pizza in NY but it isn't that much different than pizza I've had elsewhere. I do not buy any argument that NYC has "the best pizza".

Over the years:
  • I loved Emmy's sicilian pizza in Schaefferstown.
  • I used to love ACME pizza on Beaver Ave when I was in school.
  • When I was in Allentown I loved Attilio's on N Cedar Crest Blvd.
  • In Coral Springs FL I really like Annie's and Guido's. One of the best pizzas for the money: Costco's snack bar.
