Don’t think it’s far fetched. It’s ridiculous but it’s the game we are playing.
Hearing some 2nd rate DLs are 1.5M. I just can’t believe this. Let’s not pretend we’re in a recession.

And they want us to donate $100 a month? For a hurt QB? I can’t participate. This is plumb silliness. I’d be an idiot to do it.

You’ll never see me saying “we shouldn’t be paying ________”.

Remember that A&M class we all made fun of? We have to pay, pay, pay.

Just shows we do have money or at least we had money. I just hope they spend to keep the skill players and go buy some real D Lineman and O Lineman. we good with RB, QB and WR. I think if we had a good D LIne our DB would have looked better this year.

I will. Donating without a real plan is STUPIDITY.

Unless you have some sort of moral pull to help out football players. Then by all means, allow them to separate you from your money.

I’d rather eat Dominos once a week.

There’s an SEC signee in my town. His first NIL check came in before his senior season started. 15K+ to a kid who hasn’t played a down. And that’s the first installment. Not the whole thing. It’s ludicrous. He’s making more than all his coaches.

If we ran a run based, less common, niche offense, with a great athlete, option quarterback….it would cost us a fraction of what we’re paying Glass Joe Shapen. Not to mention no one would be melding or constantly trying to outbid us for a niche quarterback like this. Then we’d have tons more money to buy us a defense and and o-line ect.

Good point.

Even a spread option "Mullen" type QB would be much less and there'd be many more of them to chose from. A Chris Relf type QB would be a bargain and would put us in contention for 7-5 type seasons year in and year out.

I still can’t wrap my mind around the fact that we’re paying HS and college players more money per year than some people in their 40’s and 50’s will make in 4-5 years.
Im not contributing to that when said player can leave not only after one year but can decide DURING the season that he is done and is going elsewhere.
Just 17-ing crazy

I’ll agree with this, I think a run first offense has a lower ceiling, but in the case of a very small budget, a running qb is the way to go, especially a guy who can pass just enough to keep the D honest.

…..guy has to be full of shlt, right? No way we are that dumb. No donor can keep that garbage up.
He's DEFINITELY "full of shat", has been for years, but whether "we are that dumb" REALLY has yet to be determined but certainly isn't out of the question

Other than alcohol and grilling meat, I don’t think the guy knows anything bout football. he doesn’t sound like he even watches the games.

The same Chris Relf that went 9-4 one year and beat the piss out of Michigan in the Gator Bowl. Not to mention the same Chris Relf that went 3-0 against Ole Miss.

Different era, defensive players from those years wouldn’t stay in State if they had the portal and NIL money.

That’s the whole point of my first comment. A Chris Relf in a run based, less common niche offense, would cost a fraction, then we can spend the money on those defensive guys. Not to mention there’s no telling what we’re spending on receivers now. We’d save money there to also add to that same defense.

500k , saving 300-400k on Shapen still wouldn’t be enough to afford a DT.

This sort of stuff has a way of correcting itself. I don't know how long it'll take.

It will. Eventually there will be salary caps and revenue sharing-which sucks, or hopefully the have nots break off and form true amateur athletics again, reconstituting college football the way it was meant to be. Id rather follow and root for those programs.

A year. Yes it would. It would afford to contribute elsewhere in a more positive way than what we’re doing now. Not to mention as I said, you’d save a bunch more in WR money. Also you could get away with a few different style lineman that might be smaller and quicker, so you’d save even more money there. You could buy a way much better defense if you committed to think out side the box here. It’s just overall identity, strategy, and commitment. The problem is we have an identity issue. Identity now includes money. You can’t properly strategize until you know and accept your identity. We’re trying to be Ole Miss or LSU with a Waffle House paycheck.

Don’t disagree, that’s what happens when you hire a rookie.

That probably exists… do you think athletes at Mississippi college or belhaven are getting NIL? Are you ready to buy season tickets to MC football?

That’s not what I’m talking about. I do enjoy high school football more than ever though.
