There's a few WBB fans around here. I don't get it, but whatever.

However, it is pretty sad that in the heat of college football season...which IS the most important sport at this school by a long shot...and WBB leads the way for discussion.

I miss the Cocky Talk format. Had sub-forums for each sport. College football discussion didn't contaminated with discussion about WBB. That said, there's very little discussion about football around here anyway.

I guess the free forums will never recover from the site change.

Edit: Oh, wow, just randomly searched on Google and saw that CT is making a comeback. Could be a game changer.

I think 18 explained it well.
You don't have to read the threads you know. There are a lot of subjects (the political stuff, the complaining about Woke stuff) that don't interest me. With that said, some people like a winner and WBB is the one program that gets it done around here. We do have a player that has a statue outside of Colonial Life that is in the WNBA Finals right now. So, that thread is understandable. The other is a continuing thread that goes all the way back to the "Rivals" days. It's people that are interested in our WBB program and recruiting, etc. It's quite informative if you have any interest in that program. If you don't care, that's fine too, but people do have the right to follow a successful program.

I didn't read those threads I saw the thread titles. Oof.

If football is so important, we need to start acting like it and do all that is necessary to win. All we do is make excuses and think we are a big shot because we are in the SEC. Well, Vanderbilt is in the SEC so what does being in the top conference really mean if you are rarely competitive. It's like being the child of a billionaire and going around bragging living off your parents' rep. Football is coming off a bye and who wants to constantly live in the misery of staring another losing football season in the face. That's why you have very little football talk. I wouldn't call talking about one of our few successful programs contamination.

The men folk need to start carry their weight instead of dogging the women for making them look bad
All I heard was,” Whoohoo, I love women’s basketball!!”.
Maybe when the AD decides to make the same commitment to football, men’s basketball, and baseball, that will come to fruition. For now we’re a women’s basketball school, and we are committed to it

I'm appreciative of the attention given to WBB by a goodly number of fans on this board, even if I'm not the aficionado some of them are. What do we have that's better? I just hope the program continues to warrant the devoted following that it has. What happened at the most recent Final Four might prove to have been a crossroads if not a turning point. I hope to the Almighty that such won't be the case. That would be a shame.

I haven't looked at that WBB thread for a year. Not because I don't like WBB (I don't) but because I don't have 3 hours to catch up on it.
I check this site almost daily, I don't stay long because there isn't much on it.

I'm OK with someone starting a thread about Carolina WBB. Starting a thread about the WNBA is a bit much. That league wouldn't exist if it wasn't funded by the NBA.

The very best women's basketball player in college or WNBA just looks awkward playing basketball when compared to an average male player in the same league. Everything about women's basketball just looks awkward compared to the men's game...dribbling, shooting, layups...

It basically says we’re a women’s basketball school

Funny thing is, even though women's basketball is, far and away, our best sport right now, we're still not a women's basketball school. The vast majority of our fan base would trade both women's national titles for an SECCG win.

Honestly, I think the Gamecock FB page is where everybody has gone, the ones still interested. There's more drama there, no rules to speak of, easier to access if you're already logged on, and you can embarrass yourself there and be celebrated 😂

There are 40+ gamecock fb threads on the front page of the insiders forum. That should be plenty to scratch your itch.

Seriously, how many "fervent" WBB fans are there? If they make the Finals, sure, football fans may watch, but every game? I just don't enjoy it. Also, there were a lot of long time college football fans, old-school like me, and the whole NIL/portal thing has just left us with a sour taste for all college athletics. It's no longer about school loyalty and supporting your alma mater, it's just the money now and the realization that most of these athletes couldn't care less about the University of South Carolina. Interest is waning overall; sure if we were a contender in the SEC there would be more interest, but the high expectations SOME had for this year have disappeared.

Well, you just made a compelling case for scuttling varsity athletics altogether. I'd be OK with it. It won't happen, but maybe it should.

Good for you, but to complain that it does not cater to your needs makes you a whiny little….

Get the wife to loosen the purse strings or start a go fund me page. It will make you and others happier

I never complained.

I know there aren't subforums because we have to the create the illusion that WBB is as important as football. Can't have a WBB forum where only 5 people post.

I'm about there with you. My interest in watching NFL/NBA/MLB Light is very low. My interest in watching any women's sport at any level is zero.

I'd be perfectly happy with the Ivy league/D3 model of no scholarships and athletes had to be admitted to the school BEFORE they could join a team.

The wbb fans seem a little touchy about the subject.

I know I'm personally embarrassed when I'm told we're a women's basketball school now. Mostly because it's true.

I'm not sure about the latter. Is WBB far and away our best sport? No doubt. But, the vast majority of our fan base would trade every accomplishment by the WBB for the football team to just make the CFP, or even win an SEC title.

What a ******** topic. I only see one sustainable post for WBB on either of the two main forums. I love all USC sports. I look at that one everyday to see what’s going on. We got arguably the best coach in the nation at that sport.

Saturday I will be using one of my ten season tickets to watch USC beat Florida in football. I have been following football, baseball and basketball for both men and women. I like softball.

It’s alright to enjoy them all and WBB is one of dozens of threads to look at. Just walk on by if you don’t want to follow.

Last night I watched Christian Walker and A’ja Wilson make all of us gamecocks proud.

Did you?

I'm tired of pretending it's about education and I'm not content with a model that isn't.

At any level, when you introduce sports into education, you inevitably begin allowing students into school who otherwise don't belong there.

Look at Liberty University. Once they set their aspirations on becoming DI in sports, it necessitated allowing students who had no alignment whatsoever with the school's academic or religious philosophies.

Actually it is the non WBB that are touchy, they are the ones that start an almost weekly thread complaining about the inadequacy of WBB or troll a WBB thread. Over compensation I believe is the correct term.

Huh. you could take your own advice and pass on by. Why do you feel the need to get so defensive?

This thread would have gone away if you wouldn't have come in. I'm just expressing my opinion, yet you get defensive.

I find it hilarious that when posters who troll get upset when they get called out. Why do you troll our own fanbase? We have a very successful WBB team and our fans just keep to ourselves and enjoy our slice of FGF. What drives you to constantly drop turds in other people’s punchbowls?

I have been going to USC FB and MBB for 50 yearsI go men’s soccer and baseball. In my world I celebrate fans of all our sports. I guess that’s too much to ask

I don't think you know what trolling means.
